Ohmage question with a twist

can you help me ?

RE: Ohmage/speakers/etc.

whats the difference between:

A. running one cable out from the 8 ohm speaker output #1 on my amp, to a cab with 2x 16 ohm speakers.

or

B. running one cable out from my 8 ohm speaker output #1 , and one cable out from my 8 ohm Speaker out #2>>>
into my cab with 2x 8 ohm speakers, wired independently with their own jacks?

I ask because I have a few 8 ohm speakers layin around and want to try some different things in the 2x12.
So I was going to try them in the cab with their own jacks, almost as if I was plugging into 2 separate 8 ohm speakers from my 2 8 ohm outputs from the amp. hope that makes sense/thanks

There's no difference as long as all of the speakers are working. In the 2X16 if you lost one speaker, you would have a 16 ohm speaker into that OT that wants to see an 8 ohm load IF you lost a speaker....probably not a major problem but it would be a difference in power and tone. If you lost one of the separately-wired 8 ohm speakers, you could maintain the 'ideal' impedance....you would just have to make sure that the good speaker was running out of your main spkr out jack. The 2 separate 8 ohms would yield a total 4 ohm load, which would yield a bit more power and brighter tone.

OK thanks
please bear with me one more question,
your wording here:
"In the 2X16, you would have a 16 ohm speaker"

My cabinet is called "8 ohm Mono" by avatar,
you're saying that really its 16 ohm?
thanks

While this is aimed more at Home/auto Audio here is a link to a pdf and a web page that explains the effect of series and parallel wiring on the ohm load.

http://www.installdr.com/TechDocs/999016.pdf

http://caraudio.biggz.com/parallelseries.html

Two 16 ohm speakers in a parallel connection will have a impedance of 8 ohms.
