5D8 Twin, but wait... a TS808???
Haven't had a chance to really crank them both up together, BUT I just finished building my classic old Tubescreamer TS808 clone tonight. Tested it on my recently built tweed Twin (the old 20watt 5D8 circuit) through some Celestion Vintage 30s... so far sounds great - wait till I can actually dime the amp tomorrow (it's 1am, my neighbors would kill me)!
Here's some pics: ![]() A bit blurry... ![]() It's so tiny... I felt like I was building a Smurfin' Bassman with miniature eyelets or something! ![]() Now, I just gotta paint her or something... |

HOLY CRAP
I finally got a chance to really crank my amps and give my TS build a proper test...
Holy crap! My Twin is now MEANER than any Marshall on the block. A 20 watt amp dimed is already a vicious animal, throw a classic TS808 in front to kick the preamp in the head and WOW, that is some serious Rock&Roll. Funny thing is, I HATE OD pedals! I hate effects in general. The TubeScreamer's reputation for pushing tube amps is very deserved. Try it in an amp dimed (or nearly dimed), so that the amp is already breaking up nicely... then throw on the TS, it gives it a nice little kick in the head - BAM power tube saturated balls with the added crunch in the front. |
