Speaker In on BFDR
I have a 66 DR in pretty good nick. I don't gig it at the moment but have a situation coming up where I could be tempted to use it out. Which would make my little ears :D
What to use as a backup amp should the need arise? My other amp is a Little Lanelei Super 50 from Songworks. I usually use it with a 2 x 12 ext cab, as it's really a 50W head with a built-in little 6 inch speaker for practice situations). My question is this. The DR's back panel has input jacks labelled "speaker" and "ext speaker". Is this one labelled just speaker an input I could use to hook the Super 50 to the DR 's old Utah as an exterrnal speaker. I'm assuming that the impedance matches are OK (8 ohms i think) , and that using this jack bypasses the amp stages of the DR and goes straight to the speaker (because in our backup scenario here the DR has just spat the dummy at the gig!). I've read that because of high plate voltages in the old BFDR's its advisable not to use them with an ext. cab as the power tubes are stressed enough already. Of course i'm proposing using the "other" jack. Grateful for your advice. Oh yeah, if its relevant its an export model running 240V.

Flip, what you need is a speaker cable to run from your Little Lelani spkr out to the Utah. This necessitates a female jack on on end for the Utah to plug into and whatever interfaces with the Lelani. Do not run your Lelani into a spkr jack on the Fender.

Wally: Thanks for the info.
I was going on memory and should of checked before posting the ? Of course the Utah is plugged into the socket jack with a male quarter inch jack. Doh. So if I understand you correctly: * I should be able to safely plug the utah direct to the ext speaker out on the Super 50; and * I may need a longer (speaker) cable to extend the reach between amps - that cable will need a male jack at the Super 50 end, and a female socket at the DR / Utah end.

That is correct, Flip. If the Super 50 has a main spkr jack, I would use that. If the 6" 'practice' speaker is hard-wired, then you have to use the ext spkr jack....if I am understanding the arrangement on the Super 50 correctly.
