Scored a 68 or 69 Deluxe reverb.....

...Well I wouldn't say I scored it. Alum trim grill edges. Sufferable shape for its age. I paid top dollar for it as in those crazed ebay kind of prices. They are rare in my neck of the woods though. New tubes and recent cap job. I wont be back to my guitar to test it for a couple more days.
Looks like something else out of the toys will have to go to pay off the cha-ching.
Looking forward to trying it out at the next gig.

Today's top price is tomorrow's bargain. That's a classic handwired amp.

Yes that was part of my logic.

Thank you for that supportive wisdom. These things keep climbing in price. I figured with the new caps already in which is at least a $200 job in my area and new tubes, that by the time I found one that might have needed work, it would work out to a similiar ball park in price.

Good score. You are right in your thinking that since the amp has already been serviced, that's one additional expense that you won't have to deal with. Just clean it up as much as you can and fix anything that's broken. Then play it. Keep it from getting any more ragged, and the value will only increase.

Main Cap question

I'm not able to post an image at the moment, but the caps in the pan don't look quite as large as I would assume they should. I forgot to write down the numbers on the caps. Will do when I get the opportunity. Any comments on this appreciated.

There are different manufacturers of the caps typically used as replacements in these amps. The Sprague caps are the blue ones and are large. OTOH, Illinois Caps makes replacements that are MUCH smaller and have a gray cover. They're OK, but given my 'druthers, I'll use the Spragues.

Do post a pic when you can.

Scored a 68...

This is a great amp period. I have a 66 Deluxe. It was my first amp and I love it still. I always say if you can't get good tone out of a Deluxe you need to sell everything and take up the violin. Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi Cam,

You obviously bought it from someone in the know - or someone who has a tech in the know !!

Happy playing. Mine's become my main amp.
