I'm going to get an amp from Jim over at Lil' Dawg's pretty soon. Basically I will go out on a limb here and just get one but I need help on which one will suit my takes better.
  • My favorite sound is a Twin Reverb's clean wow, I love it!
  • My favorite Fender crunch is a Deluxe reverb
  • I don't need a loud amp, something a little less than a Twin would be adequate enough
  • I would like an amp that breaks up kind of early, did I mention how I love Twin Reverbs? If only I had a Twin Reverb and it had a "break-up" point somewhere that's not ear splitting, that is my dream amp

So which one should I get. I have a '75 Champ and it's a great little thing b/c of it's relatively low volume overdrive, I wish it was a little more full bodied but that might just be the cab and speaker. I'm really looking for something "in-between" a small Champ and a large Twin, something with incredibly rich clean tones and a nice smooth overdrive that doesn't require you to flush your neighboors from their residences.

I know Jim's amp cabs are a little deeper than most so that might add some bass complexity to a 5F1's cleans. But what about a 5E3, I've never heard one, what is it most attributed to? Any recommendations?

Go with a 5D8.

The "low watt's low watt".

No reverb, but it's got lower headroom than a typical Twin, and a little more headroom (for cleans) than a blackface Deluxe Reverb... in fact it's almost in the middle power-wise of these two amps.
