Eminence - Jensen c12n approximation?

Does anyone know if any of the Eminence patriot/redcoat speakers does a reasonable job of approximating the Jensen c12n? Eminence's are a bit cheaper than Jensens over here and have a better rep.

Cheers

Eminence Speakers

Eminence has a good comparative chart on their website. I might help clarify things for you.

I just put a Cannabis Rex in my DRRI and it sounds fantastic. I think Eminence is making great speakers at a great price.

try the Legend series

I forget if it's the Legend 125 or 122 , but one of those legends is as close to the old C12N as you can get. Frankly the new Jensen C12N's are far too bright even after break in. The Jensen K12N sounds sounds less bright, but there's something about the lower mid frequencies that drive me nuts.

Red White and Blues

I had a Jensen c12n in my DRRI. Replaced it with an Eminence Red White and Blues and feel that the Emi is what I thought the c12n was going to be.

LOL! I agree with the comments about the current production ceramic RI Jensens. Too bright, just don't sound right. OTOH, I think their RI P12N sounds great! I am also very curious about the RI P12Q and P10Q, are they excessively bright? And what about the Neo 12?

The Emmi Patriot/RedCoat series looks very interesting, lots of choices. I read lots of good stuff about them, but I've not used one nor have I heard one in person (that I was aware of). Kind of like looking at Ted's web page, where do you start, so many choices. It's a bit overwhelming, makes taking a decision difficult when there are so many options. Given that the C12N has a 1.5" coil and a magnet weight in the mid-30s ounces, The Emmi Legend 125 has those specs. For a Patriot, maybe the Red White and Blues or the Black Powder. Personally I'd probably go with a Swamp Thang since it has a bigger magnet and coil, and probably has more low end.

Ted's "equivalent", the 12F150, is superb, but costs more.

The P10QRI has a thick, smooth, curved cone and rigid dust cap. Plenty bright, but not in the icepick category of the 10/12R and the ceramics. Surprisingly efficient and very clean. A bit too hi-fi for my taste, not much funk in these. I first tried them in one of my 5F4 amps, not right for a tweed at all. I then put them in a Tremolux and if you were going for an almost JBL surfy clean in a Tremolux or Vibrolux reverb they aren't a bad choice. I have a customer breaking in a P12Q, but I haven't heard one myself yet.

The Eminence 125 and RWB share a lot of the same tonal characteristics. The main difference is the RWB having a bit stronger low end and noticeably more efficient. A pair of RWBs are suitable for demolition work. Both will get you in C12N territory. I would choose according to how much thunder and volume you desire. Comparing these to the vintage C12N, they have a little more high end roll off and a bit stronger midrange. Quite like the W-12F150 in frequency response.

Yo Rick,

Have you tried treating the cones on those Jensen P10/12Qs? Ted was saying you can spray some Downy fabric softener on the cone and it helps. Also, you could lightly dope the surround to tame things down a bit. Then there's always Uncle Spot's acetone treatment which is supposed to bring up the low end. Maybe a combo of the acetone and the Downy?

I have pair of Legend 125s in my '66 Pro Reverb (I removed the Celestions)

I'm very happy wit the sound, great Bass response and Fender twang with either humbuckers or a Tele or Strat.

the Eminence Legend 122 flat nails the vintage Jensen thing. Cheap, too.

I'm a big fan of the emi "redwhit&blue" for nailing that classic fender tone....

You can't beat the Eminence Red,White & Blues. Have Super Champ in 12" cabinet with this Speaker.

Red, White & Blues

I have one of these in my Allen V-18. This was recommended by David. I haven't gotten into swapping out speakers so I'm not aware of which ones to go with. I'm glad with the results. Therefore I agree with the others that give positive reviews. I was thinking about the Emi Texas Heat before I heard the RWB. Has anyone tried or heard that one?

Looks like the RWB is a goer. I was only concerned that with that amount of power handling, it might need cranking past what I need in terms of volume...
