Hey Country Shawn (Z talk...)

I've been thinking about picking up a used Maz18Hr 2x10, and wondered if you had the opportunity to play the reverb AND NR version before buying? I like having verb for home use, but have heard that the verb circuit on these does something detrimental to the tone...?

Coincidentally, I am pondering a similar amp. It is the Maz 18 Jr. NR 2-12 combo. I have heard that the NR version is a little louder, punchier, and less compressed. I will be curious to hear what others have to say. I'm actually fond of small amps that have a little more sag and softness to them, so I am thinking the Maz 18 with reverb might be a better fit for me.

I did play a Reverb version once, although it was through a different cabinet, so it's not entirely apples to apples.

Having said that though, I thought that the NR version had a bit more open-ness and headroom to it. Don't get me wrong, the reverb version was OK, but I did feel that somehow my NR version had some extra little something in the feeling of space.

Don't you just love this "objective" amp tone description?? LOL

Plus the fact that I never use reverb made the decision easy for me. I'm a delay guy.

Hope that was somewhat helpful. ;)

Shawn

Oh yeah- forgot about that! Cool, thanks for the info. I'm just used to my current amp (Peavey Classic 50 410) having verb, which I use at home, and I guess I'm a little "scared" of what I might miss going the NR route.

I could get a reverb pedal, I guess, but I'd really rather not.

Thanks again.

If you're looking for a real wet reverb sound, steer clear of Dr. Z amps period. They just don't go there.

No no. I just like a little verb when playing at home to flesh out the sound a little- my carpeted room where I play at home doesn't reallt have much in the way of acoustics.

ruger9...

i play the same amp version as countryshawn, 2x12 " with weber blue dog alnicos and i tested the RV and NR version.
as for my ears, the NR version is a little punchier, not really louder ( though those 18 watts are dang loud ! ).
the dr.z reverb is pretty good, but i never use reverb, i only got a analog delay for slap back sounds and i never had the feeling of missing the reverb.
for these amps shimmer so beautiful when played, you probably won´t feel the need for reverb as well....
i can only recommend these great amps.
take care

I always used a good amout of reverb on my Fender amps, then when I moved into the Z camp (Mazerati first, then Carmen Ghia) I bought a holy grail reverb as there was no onboard reverb on the amps, I also use delay.

anyone need to buy a holy grail reverb pedal?

you see what im getting at? :>

good luck on a great amp

Gotta get in on this

I've got a 2x10 18 Jr. on hold - and am just wondering if there are other 2x10 owners who have upgraded the speakers - if so, to what.

Thanks
