Hey MKG

I need to check out one of those Allens.

Maybe I could get it covered in the early off white Tolex.

Call it the Vanilla Fudge.

Watch out, he's got a pun.

ne4tt + mkg = haw haw
you guys are killin' me.

I'm dying to try that Hot Fudge, more than a few dollars away though.

Favorite I own: no way. I love my SFVR and I have a really good sounding SF Champ. But I wouldn't keep an amp I didn't like alot, even that little tweed Bronco.

Loud and heavy

Lucky for me, I have a strong back.
And some strong friends :D

No 1: my workhorse a KOCH Powertone Head and a 2* 12 Vintage 30 cabinet.

No 2: my old Marshall JMP stack (master volume 100W)
Sold it 10 years ago.

No 3: my old Late ‘70s Virbrosonic reverb 15" JBL.
Also sold in de mid '80s.

Pulled out the two outer power-tubes of the Powertone.
No way I can play that amp at 120 watts in a normal pub.
I like it for the smart solo boost (like the Bogner amps)
And the very nice natural compression of the tubes.

Favorite Amp

Guess it's gotta be my Marshall 1974X...

18 watts of PTP/hand wired tone!

EL84

Just this morning I decided that my Savage Glas 30 is my favorite amp of all time. I've played and owned a lot of amps and for tone, versatility, sensitivity and build quality it has to be the Savage. I can play my Tele, Les Paul and P-90 Hamer through it almost without touching the knobs. The four EL84s can do the 6L6 clean and the EL34 crunch plus loads in between. It needs no pedals to enhance, boost or change tones. It sounds sweet at room volumes as well as earth-moving roar. I think it looks awesome in its brown tolex and salt & pepper grille. It's my main, and my one and only.

My Winfield...

Best sounding amp for my Tele I've owned yet, including a SFDR, SFVR, SF MMB, SF Champ and a '64 BFTR.
Nice and fat, crunchy and greasy at the same time, kind of like good fried chicken

My problem is that I can't pick. I have 3 amps right now. I love the way my older Rivera K-55 head puts out distorted tones and can do clean too. I love the clean to lighter drive + reverb sounds of the Allen Old Flame. And I love the pushed EL84 tones of the Tophat Club Royale.

I am seriously starting to think about doing two amp setup. But which one will ride the pine?

Eh, I'm too lazy, I'll probably stick with the Rivera...

So to answer your question, I've either never met my favorite amp or I don't have one.

This should come as no surprise to anyone here on this board by now, but hands down, it's my Dr. Z MAZ-18 Jr NR 2X10 Combo.

It's the first setup I've used where I think it's perfect and I don't feel the need to mess with it one iota.

No knob tweaking, endlessly searching for something that isn't there.
Same settings, any day every day because it's exactly right the way it is.

Now how often can a person say that?

Cheers,

Shawn

Dr. Z

Without a doubt my Dr. Z Mazerati through a Z-Best cabinet with 2x12 "Scumback" speakers.

Magnatone

As of today, a Magnatone Estey M-15. Beat tohell (and never a beauty to begin with) but I now know why studios tend to keep one of these old beasts around. As quiet as I have ever heard a tube amp and was able to coax so many sounds out if it I lost count.
Also a Rickenbaker MB II real nice practice amp and one of the best harp amps around.

'62 brown Fender Pro-Amp

it's beat-up, used hard over the years, but it sings like a bird. when i first got it, it was a little edgy, so i took out the ice-pick JBL that was in it and put in a Weber 15A150, replaced the solid-state recto with a copper cap (chassis had punch-out for additional tube socket) and had it cathode-biased for a little more sweetness at a little less power. for my purposes it's as close as tone heaven gets.

ironically, i don't get to use it as much as i'd like to -- mostly dinky club gigs these days where i use the 5E3 (not that i'm complaining).
