got my GA-8 back from the amp hospital...

Gibson GA-8 Discoverer:

I had originally thought my issue was a bad preamp tube. but it turned out not to be. but rather a sligtly bent lug of one of the tube sockets that were touching. anyhow the filter caps were all original and leaking so he replaced those. AND i had him give me a speaker out jack instead of having it hardired. that was I can run it easily into another cab.

got her back, and she is real sweet. I had tried to sell it until I realized a few issues. I repaired the torn original Oxford, but haven;t put it back in yet. THe Reverend 12" Alltone sounds so good in there.

Anyhow, it sounds great with my Tele. but it sounds the BEST with my p90 Hamer Special. oddly enough this gibson amp doesn;t sound that good with my Gibson 'bucker geets. Those duncan JB pickups are just too powerful and modern.

but the amp crankin with the p90 or tele grinds nicely on rhythms. kick on a MXR micro-amp for a bit more gain and it sings on leads. It sounds like a 'poor-mans' 18 watter (Marshall)

I'm keeping it now. gonna get a lot of recording use.

thanks Wally. it's the crestline series. '63 i think. so EL84s. I know folks prefer the earlier 6V6 series, and i'd love to try one, but this is sounding sweet. vol. bass. treble. so simple.

Same thing here. I have a p90 Hamer Special that sounds incredible through my GA19 RVT, medalist series.

I have a '61 GA-8T that runs the 6MB8. Some folks say they don't care for that version, but it is different from my other amps and rips it up. I put a '64 Fender Reverb unit on it, jack up the tremolo and imagine I can play those ferocious Link Wray things...big fun.
