Amp Speakers

I know that for PA systems, you can only use speakers that match up with your power amp. Is the same true with an amp. For example how many watt speaker could I throw into an amp that comes stock with a Celestion V30

Re: Amp Speakers

As long as a speaker is rated to handle at least the maximum continuous power of the amp, it should be fine.

So for example, there is nothing wrong with using a 150 watt speaker in an amp rated for 30, 50, or 100 watts. As long as a speaker can handle an amps power safely, you can then audition based solely on sound quality preference.

You also usually need to match the impedance of the amp's output. So if the amp specifies an 8 0hm speaker load, that is what you should use. Some amplifiers will tolerate a mismatch, for instance plugging in an extension speaker on most old Fenders, taking them from 8 ohms to 4, or 4 ohms to 2.

I know about impedence, since I have done a bit with PA System. The thing I was asking is since with PA system, if you use a too powerful speakers with a too small powered amplifier, then you will burn up the amp.
