Jensen C10Q

Anyone have any experience with these? Are they decent sounding and possibly an improvement over the stock speakers in my Princeton Chorus? Thanks.

I have a 4x10 loaded with them and I like them. I can't say much for tone, I'm not a tone head really, I know the old Silvertone amps of the 60's used these though. I'm sure you can do better then a Jensen but I'm happy with them. They have a tight sound that's for sure, I find them to lack in the bass department but it might just be the soild state head I'm using

I've got one in a '68 Princeton Reverb and it sounds great, much better than the stock speaker.

It was kinda harsh at first but it's broken in nicely now.

I've tried the new Jensen C10Q's in a 2-10 cabinet that I got a couple years ago, didn't like them at all, they were very harsh and bright sounding to my ears, and that's with a tube amp.
Also had a SF Vibrolux that had the RI Jensens, didn't like them in that amp either.
In both cases these speakers were broken in, so it's not a matter of them just being new.
Also tried a RI Jensen C12 in a Princeton Reverb, didn't care for it either.
My Koch tube amp has a 90 Jensen speaker, and I do like it so I'm not just "anti-Jensen".
But FWIW I think the Eminence 10" speakers, both alnico and ceramic magnet versions & the new Redcoats are much better than the new Jensens.
IF you can find them the Reverend Alltone speakers are great too, they don't make them anymore but they still pop up for sale.

YMMV of course.

I believe that Uncle Spot has a write-up on his web site about an acetone treatment for these RI Jensen C10Qs that makes them sound good. Stone stock they supposedly sound like crap.

Yes you can use acetone or fabric softener to "break" in speakers.
But the Vibrolux that I got with the Jensens supposedly had already had that done, I still didn't like them.

2 different treatments. Fabric softener is used to soften the cone. Acetone is used to soften the surround.

If your C10Qs have been treated, and you still find them too bright and harsh, you sound like a perfect candidate for Weber 10F150s.

I have a set of the reissue C10Qs in my Princeton Chorus, and absolutely love them. They sound great! They have an upper frequency response of 6000 hz which is what I like about them.

In another amp, I have an Eminence Legend 105. IMO, another great speaker. I suggest looking at both; neither will disappoint you.

Wow, what polarizing speakers! Folks seem to love em or hate em.

bkief1, I am glad you chimed in about your Princeton Chorus. How does the low end hold up with those speakers? I want to keep the nice, clean chiminess of the amp yet improve the bass response without getting that speaker flubber.

I have a pair bought slightly used and like them just fine.
The previous owner might have done some type of break
in thing but don't know. These were a definitely improve-
ment over the blue label Fenders.
Mine are very smooth sounding.
The speakers I have to compare with are orig. Jensens, old
Celestion, JBL, CTS, Utahs, Eminence, Fender Blue labels
and Kendricks. The C10Qs although more different
sounding than some of the above hold their own well.
For $50, a pair these were a good deal.

I´m interested in that as well . My Laney vc15 has the C10Q (8 ohm version) . which is not bad but somehow quite midrange frequency orientated, plus it looses some natural sparkle in low overdrive setting. So I would like to try out something alnico, either P10R or P10Q. Which one would you (or you, or you, or you

I prefer the Jensen 10-50 MOD over the Jensen C10Q....smoother IMO.

Try the Weber Ceramic Signature 10S--same tone, better made. I have one in my Rivera Clubster 25 and get a great BFPR vibe.

So, if i had to choose between the P10R or P10Q for my Laney VC15 to replace the C10Q and try out an alnico, which one would be better (to improve the brightness/cleareness in cleans and still be good on dirty channel)?

P10Q--the P10R sounds thin IMO.

I'd rather just let time do it's trick, BUT that can take a long, long time.

I wonder how the originals sounded back in the old days when they were brand new...

The AlNiCo P versions are a tad more mellow in the top end. If the C version is a tad too harsh, the P may be a good compromise. When it comes to Tele pickers some like the tight high end snap, others like the mellower/darker AlNiCo's... a wide array of tastes :)

I bought 4 on ebay a few weeks ago, new in the box. Have been using 2 in a 2-10 cab with my Vibrolux and a single in my Princeton .
They are bright ! But I like them better than the Fane Alnico's that I had been using, I have no doubt that I could find a smoother sounding speaker, yet for clean sounds, I like them a lot. For distorted sounds, not as much.
I have some real Jensens non reissue in a couple of amps I use, the reissues don't sound the same but they are similar, considering the price ,they are great. The 2 old jensens in combination with the 2 new ones in the cab. are a lovely sounding thing in my Vibrolux. Did I mention that they are cheap ?

Ringo Tele-Afflicted Join Date: Mar 2003 Location: Memphis TN Posts: 1,899	Didn't like them I've tried the new Jensen C10Q's in a 2-10 cabinet that I got a couple years ago, didn't like them at all, they were very harsh and bright sounding to my ears, and that's with a tube amp. Also had a SF Vibrolux that had the RI Jensens, didn't like them in that amp either. In both cases these speakers were broken in, so it's not a matter of them just being new. Also tried a RI Jensen C12 in a Princeton Reverb, didn't care for it either. My Koch tube amp has a 90 Jensen speaker, and I do like it so I'm not just "anti-Jensen". But FWIW I think the Eminence 10" speakers, both alnico and ceramic magnet versions & the new Redcoats are much better than the new Jensens. IF you can find them the Reverend Alltone speakers are great too, they don't make them anymore but they still pop up for sale. YMMV of course.
