Vox problem involving an act of dog...
So last night, I walk into my music room to catch my dog, the retired racing greyhound named Homer, peeing on my Vox AD30VT. He's a tall dog and well, he hit the control panel pretty easily.
After yelling at him -- actually, I felt bad because he's a good, gentle dog with a great disposition -- I wiped down the amp and then plugged it in. Nothing. It made some weird noises. But it didn't work. I took it apart and cleaned the chassis as best as I could. Plugged it in. Nothing. I guess I'll find out today if the warranty covers act of dog... |

New business partner...
Urine is very corrosive stuff, so a very thorough wipe down (and maybe spray some contact cleaner into the appropriate electrical places) may save even more damage.
I've never thought about it before, but maybe someone could use it as a method of relicing guitar hardware. You and your dog could go into business as Canine Aged Guitars. I think your first project should be an authentic Fender "Pee" Bass. Your marketing slogan: " 'Urine' good hands with Canine." or "You say it...we spray it." hey - don't get "pissed" at me...its just an idea. Everyone who thinks its a good idea - raise your leg, er, I mean ARM.

Late advice....
The best thing to do when liquid has gotten to an amp is not to turn it on until the liquid has been removed or dried on its own. A customer called me once and described a flooded basement full of amps and guitars. As for the amps, I told him to let them dry thoroughly. He brought them in a few months later without having fired them up. A TR, an Sr and an old Gibson all 3 fired up and worked perfectly after having been in 2-2 1/2 feet of water.
As for this problem at hand, now you will need some 'doggy off' product to convince the dog that your amp is not his relief stop. Good luck. I have a Les Paul Custom sitting here that suffered from the same type of dog treatment. The urine peeled the lacquer off of the front of the guitar, and discolored the gold hardware. So, yes, I suppose that dog urine would be a good 'relicing' product. |

I've got a Vox AD30VT and a Greyhound. The good news is that my Greyhound is a female, so I don't have to worry about her using my gear as a relief area. However, she did knock over my 3 month old $1600 Taylor and put two notches in the neck. :(

My poodle Gromit also peed on some gear.
He got a brand new ( 2 weeks old ) line 6 DM4. It didn't work when i tried it. Got it straight to a tech. Apparantky dog urine is strong stuff. It corroded the chip inside pedal and it never worked again. My insurance covered the full cost though. Good luck. Steve |

All's well, I guess
When I went home Tuesday and fired up the amp, it worked. Took it to practice and it was fine...
What can I say, urine happens... Snook, greyhounds are great dogs -- most of the time, it's like having a big, bony throw rug -- but they can be kind of dopey. At least Homer can be... |

Glad your amp is okay
As long as it wasn't powered on at the time, amps can be pretty resilient. One of my old tube amps was bobbing in the waves for about 24 hours in a house flood. After cleaning the dirt/debris off and rinsing and drying the circuitry with alcohol, my amp is still working nearly 20 years later.... and guaranteed that "water" mine was floating in was in was more caustic than dog pee.
And on a seperate note.... and speaking of Dog Acts.... Pepi, where did you find that picture? Looks like "The Fabulous Viszla Brothers" from their reunion tour. They are looking a little long in the tooth, so it must have been from late in their careers when they started playing all that hillbilly music. You got my kids laughing at that picture, so thank you! |

David: Yeah, big dog, small head.
And Sarge, you're right. He never peed on my Fenders or my Ampeg... This is totally off-topic, but a quick dog joke... Hear about the dyslexic athiest? He didn't believe there was a dog... I'll be here all night. Don't forget to tip your waitpersons... |

ok, now this reminded me of a story that happend to a good friend of mine. i'll keep it short.
my friend (living in colorado..being a ski bum at the time) ended up at some guys house after a night of partying....i think the town was minturn. the guy had a really nice vintage strat he was very proud of. it was on a guitar stand in the middle of his living room. anyway, everyone had been drinking like mad, and my friend passed out. sometime during the night...oh 3-4 AM, he awoke needing to relieve himself. he was still quite wasted and stumbled around looking for the bathroom. well, he mistook the vintage strat for a toilet. the homeowner heard the splashing and rushed in to find my friend whizzing all over the guitar. needless to say, my friend stumbled his way home 5 or 6 miles in the freezing cold @ 3-4 AM.
