What always worked best for me on the Maz Jr and Sr was keeping hi and mid controls low, around 9 oclock, and adjusting the cut and bass to taste. I love Z amps but you have to experiment because they dont react the way other amps tend to. My advice would be to turn all the tone controls off and slowly bring them up one at a time untill you hear what you like.

Here's what I usually use:
Volume: 40% Treble: 25-30% Mids: 15% Bass: 50% Master: 100% Cut: 85% This setup will give a nice jangly, glassy, but throaty clean tone with lots of headroom. I used to use the Volume-High/Master-Low setup to get some slight hair, but I've since switched to using a pedal, since the amp really breathes so much better when the master is wide open. Cheers, Shawn

I'm like Country Shawn when I'm playing a Tele, with a little less cut and a little more treble. With Strats, less treble, more cut, bass and mid. With Humbuckers, a little more volume, cut and mid.

Tube rec.
By the way, I just put a matched pair of 1970's NOS Tesla EL-84's in my Maz Jr, from KCA (http://kcanostubes.com/content/estor...sp?product=175) and I can honestly say that I like these every bit as much as the old Mullards, Phillips, Brimar and Telefunkens that I have used in this amp. These may be the best I've had in there ever, and at $55 a matched pair, they are an awesome bargain. Highly recommended!!
