Epiphone Valve Standard

I am going to buy this amp.

Anything is better than my Solid State Fender.
http://epiphone.com/default.asp?Prod...ollectionID=13

Only $299 at MF.

I know the speaker is probably crap (as are the DSP effects) but I can replace the speaker for that money or just run it to a cab, It has a jack.

15W Class A
• Push-Pull
• 12AX7, EL84
• 16 DSP Selections
• Separate DSP Reverb <<<<<<<<<------yuck!
• Gutsy, Musical Preamp Section
• 12” Special Design Speaker
• 8 Ohm Speaker Out
• 2 Button Footswitch (optional) for DSP/Rev On/Off

My only hesitation is the reverb, and the possibility that the pots and switches are crap.

Ive played it at GC and was impressed. They want $399 though.

Any advice for tube or speaker upgrades?

Thanks.

I've always been happy with JJ tubes from Bob at www.eurotubes.com.

While I haven't tried the Valve Standard, I did try the Valve Special (the 5W version) at a GC recently, and was mightily impressed--especially for the price. Didn't like the reverb much, and the DSP delay was only moderately useful, but the flanger did do kind of a leslie thing.

The important thing was that the basic tone was very impressive, especially for the price. Now maybe some of that was the 5W class A nature of the special, so I don't know if the 15W versions sounds as good, but that 5W was impressive.

Uh?

299 to 399 and the reverb sucks and it needs a speaker? and maybe pots?

I would look for a SF Princeton Reverb, me.

I just got the Epiphone Galaxie 25. Pretty happy with it. The 25 watts makes it loud enough to keep up at the blues jam and then some. Tube reverb is nice and is footswitchable. Got mine for $230 from Musician's Friend. They went back up to $350 and are back down to $250. Check it out. I think the extra 10 watts and the tube reverb would be worth it.

I"ve got a Valve Special with some tubes from Bob and a Weber speaker and it is great in my opinion...Sounds great a low volume....DSP effects are not good for much but I can get some reverb that I'm happy with.
Perfect Amp for toting around !

I was looking into getting the Galaxie 25 too. Hows it compare to say the Fender Pro Jr. or the Traynor YCV20? How is yours with the "humm" problem everyone talks about. I'm really interested in hearing more about it.

for 300 bucks you have some options. vox valvetronix that so many rave about for one. crate makes some nice tube amps. look at some used amps...peavey has some nice tube amps. you can also find a nice old champ for under 3 bones. personally, i'd look around. what sort of tone are you after, and what will be the application? bedroom jamming, small venue gigs?

Well I guess I am the odd man out out, but I found these amps brutal when I tried them out. A Valve Junior is one thing...they are a small, cheap 5 watt no frills practice amp so you don't expect much. But the Specials are another matter. I thought the amp sounded horrible and all the DSP effects including the reverb were among the worst effects I have ever heard. I don't know what they were thinking even including them on the amp.

I love the idea of a tube amp in this price range, but I wouldn't buy it just for that reason. In the same price range the Vox Valvetronix amps sound way better.

So I take it your's has no hum problem that so many people are talking about? I've heard so many mixed reviews on this amp and none seem to be in the middle they either really suck or really rock. You got any sound clips you could post?
