Jensen P12R speaker

I was on the hunt for a lightweight 1x 12" cab.
Grabbed one locally used and the cab came loaded with a Jensen P12R speaker.
I was gonna flip the speaker and drop another 12" in , however......
I really dig this speaker! . I've had it over 6 mths so the honey moon is over.
It's alnico, really lightweight, really old sounding.

instant Neil Young IMO.

I can't find many favourable reviews on them , despite fender putting them in the road worn blues junior (billm bags them in this amp) and the 10 inch version comes standard with the 59 bassman.

So, any love out there for the P12R ?

A lot of guys will say they aren't very efficent. Then they'll start talking about attunuators and master volumes because they're amp is loud.
Just rember alot of internet opinions are posted by guys who have trouble sleeping.

Like BobbyZ's examples, I never knew how much money I could burn through until i discovered Internet guitar forums!

It's funny... I have had a few amps with Jensen Reissue speakers, both ceramic and alnico. The first was a stock DRRI and I thought it sounded great with the well-broken-in ceramic Jensen C12R. I had the Blues Jr with the Jensen RI and really didn't care for it at all (maybe I never really did get it broken in?). But, I've had a '63 Vibroverb Reissue with a mismatched C10R and P10R for ages and I love how it sounds!

It seems to be dependent upon the amp it's being used with for me. But, I honestly like the Jensen reissue speakers. The Alnico Jensens are affordable and sound good when broken in. Congrats on the new cab and a winner of a speaker.

I've got the original p12r out of my '49 Deluxe stashed away, and a Weber Sig12A(pretty close to the original Jensen)in there instead, as well as in my homebrew 5E3; and a re-coned Jensen P10R in my old Gibson Explorer.
Love 'em in Tweeds for that Vintage tone.

I've got one that I've had for years and just put in a new homemade cab.

I think it sounds fabulous with my Princeton Reverb and I hope to eventually pair it with a 5E3 head.

It spent some time in a Blues Junior several years ago. I sold the amp but kept the speaker...and I'm happy I went that route.

I'm not sure how much of that is perception. For some reason when it comes to guitars and amps, its automatically a POS if it's made overseas. I loved my p10q in my Princeton but not my Princeton reverb. For a new speaker I prefer a reissue p8r in a silver/black face champ. Different strokes.

I have a 1960 Jensen P12R, that was re-coned by Gordon in Seattle.
It sounds great in a 1 x12 open-backed cab, powered by a DIY clone of a Fender 5F1 Champ.

I just bought a limited Blues Junior tweed with this speaker in it and I'm in love with how it sounds, perfect for me.

The italian made jensens aren't a patch on the originals I'd look to wgs or weber.

I don't care much for the two 10's I have. Ill replace them when I have the dough. Ill report on any differences I experience.

I think people are critical because the reissues use neither the proper the cone material / pulp and not the proper shape cone.

I personally think you REALLY have to break them in before judging, hence me keeping mine. Those old ones people are comparing them to are very very broken in and loose. Phil X was commenting on that when talking about his old magnatone amp or whatever it is versus the new Evil Robot. He said that was the biggest difference in the identical circuits.
