New Amp Advice

I know it is up to me to decide in the end, but a little help goes a long way.
I have a 72īSF Twin Reverb that I love and donīt really wanna let go. The band broke up recently and I am now planning on doing it by myself; home recordings, gigs and maybe a jam once in a while. While the Twin Reverb is a great sounding and powerful amp it is not all that practical, instead I need a smaller amp that could work better for me on the new musical road. Maybe build one like the Tweed Deluxe 5E3 with the Mission Amp kit?

Feel free to suggest a good sounding tube amp, mainly for recording?

My current financial status forces me to sell the Twin in order to get the new amp wich is a bit sad cuz it is the only vintage gear I own.
Maybe I should get a smaller vintage amp like a 50īs Tweed Deluxe or a 70īs Princeton?
Thank you for your time.

If you like the Twin, go for the Princeton Reverb. The tweeds will sound a lot differnt and won't have the spring reverb or tremolo. The Prince sounds a lot like a clean twin, but at reasonable volumes.

Problem is, in todays market a Prince and a Twin have about the same value. Why not just keep the Twin and maybe get a power attenuator so you can crank it a bit and keep the volume down?

well....

...Please and I mean PLEASE...don't sell the Twin. If your band ever gets together again or you're in another you're gonna wish you had one. It's a mess to buy one on fleabay and the shipping costs alone will kill. Try not to do it as much as humanly possible.

...as far as the recording stuff it depends on what you need. If you want reverb and trem then yeah a PReverb will do the job in one package. However, I would seriously consider a VChamp and buying a reverb pedal if cost is your main concern. The VChamp will put you back $300 and a used reverb pedal can be had at reasonable bucks.

Both the PR and VC are great recording amps hands down. GLuck.

i agree, keep the Twin !

Find a Champ, or as James suggests, a Princeton, you really can't go wrong with either of them....

Oh Yes By all means keep the twin. Make do for a smaller amp but you will want that old Twin back someday. Been there done that.
