Speaker Blown! Is it me or the speaker? Help!
Just got a Victoria Deluxe with a Jensen Reissue 12" Alnico speaker. Last night while playing in my den, amp volume on 4-5, Fulltone Fat Boost and Keely Compressor feeding the signa, the amp suddenly cracked, popped and went quiet. After checking all the tubes and wiring, I checked the speaker to find it was dead.
Is the speaker in this amp not designed to take this signal strength or is the speaker possibily defective? Any ideas? Any suggestion for a new speaker? I've got an old Fender Eminence in it right now but I do not have a lot of experience with 12" speakers. My other amps have 10" models where Weber is my favorite... Help!

re: Help!
I would ask for another speaker. It should be under warranty by either the manufacturer of the amp or the importer of the Jensen reissues.

It might be the speaker if it's a P12R. I would sure give Victoria a call if you got the amp from them, the speaker should be able to handle a 4-5 setting on the vol knob. Not sure about the Fulltone Fat Boost and Keely Compressor feeding the amp, that might have helped to cook the speaker. I like Weber speakers in Tweeds myself. A Weber P12B or a P12Q sounds very nice in the Tweed Deluxe.>joe

Thanks for the reply.... are you implying the speaker is defective? I am still wondering if the pedal effects and the gain levels from them can damage the amp at normal or median amp volume levels. thanks! Tommy

I think the speaker was defective.
A seriously clipped signal is hard on a speaker, but the 18 or so watts available out of a Tweed Deluxe shouldn't blow even a P12R (25rms/50peak rating).
Good luck with your claim. P. |

Yes, according to their ratings for that particular speaker, it should take that power of that amp, even with a high average power (cranked amp + effects + distortion). I'd call the importer/distributor and ask for a replacement, or get one from the amp manufacturer. Some of the amp manufacturers are sending their customers directly to the importer for warranty issues. Ted WeberVST
