Whoa! $1799 for a BFDR?

I went by the Guitar Center while on a trip to Dallas and spotted a rather tired looking (certainly nowhere near mint) BF Deluxe Reverb fo a mere $1799!! Are people really that desperate to have one of these?

On the other hand, I picked up a 68 SF Super Reverb at GC in Larchmont NY for $750 inc. tax. It was certainly not mint, but it had a stock untouched BF circuit and original CTS alnicos. I guess the blackface sends prices into the stratosphere, especially on DR's and VR's. SF rules, baby.

As you've seen Mitch the GC chain has vintage prices all over the place. But lately around SF Bay Area, the GC prices have seemed uniformly "high" the few times I've dropped in: a few months ago San Jose GC had at least 3 BFSRs on the salesfloor, lookswise fair to good, and none priced under $2200. (I haven't seen any cool gear at the Concord GC in some time).

But the amp that always seems "overpriced" (subjectively: in that I'm always astounded at what the seller is asking GC or otherwise) is the Deluxe Reverb. SFDR's starting at 800 bucks, BFDRs at 1500 and up.

Congrats on that SR. Sounds like you got a nice deal.

BFDRs....

Yeah...that's out there! I love my '65 DR but I really can't see it worth 1700. Heck....my '66 Bassman head cost only $300 and that's easily as toneful an amp as the DR. Just shows you what the vintage market has done.

If someone gave me $1799 for mine - I'd surely be tempted. Do they actually sell for that price??

Do they sell for that price?

Sometimes I think GC puts together a vintage collection and prices it way high on purpose, so the stuff becomes sort of an exhibit that works you up into a GAS frenzy and makes you go buy a more affordable reissue or something. If anyone actually pays those prices, they will gladly take your money, but otherwise the vintage stuff is like a fancy window display - just a retail merchandising technique.

Nice idea - Think they have the smarts to think of that approach themselves
