Pretend you find yourself in a situation where you need to find an amp you can gig with while playing with a 4 person band (drums-bass-keyboard-drums) that plays a variety of music covering blues-country-rock. You have to have it for a gig where you don't know if you will be able to use a microphone for the amp. The gig is tomorrow night.

You have a budget of $400.

So scan the local Craig's list, penny saver, pawn shops or used gear in shops that you may know of, etc., and see what you come up with. You can't use E-bay, unless it's local. (becuase the gig is tomorrow)

In my case, in San Diego, I found a Fender Blues Jr. for $400 and a Carvin 50 watt Nomad for $350, both on CL. I'd be inclined to go for the Carvin, becuase I might need some clean headroom without being mic'd. And I'd use the extra bucks to pick up a used dirt pedal somewhere.

What would you do where you live?

On a quick look I found a Carvin Belair for $300 or a Crate Club 50 for $350
Both 50 watts

I think either one would fit the criteria.

I would take the Carvin over the Blues, Jr. for any purpose but weight.

It might take a bit of triage. Quick 'n' dirty is faster than slick 'n' tidy. I usually do slick 'n' tidy.

The only thing close to me here in Iowa is a Super Twin for 450. It'd work for the unmiked thing, and they'd be able to hear me in Wisconsin.

Only because it's December and the corn aint growin'.

Just get the sound to travel far enough to Conevsille and you might get lucky.

GC Used has a Line 6 Spider Valve for $350...I've been wanting to try one

Slim pickings...I think I'll just grab an amp from the music room.

I sold a perfect condition Ac15c1 on CL a year ago.
Could only get I think $375 for it. Recently saw a nice one in a pawn shop for 350.

This pretend situation matches up pretty well with what's currently listed on my local CL.

There's a Blackstar "mini stack" and he's asking for "the $350-400 range." The head is an HT5, stacked on 2 Blackstar 1x10 cabinets.

Also, there's a Vox AC15 CC1 for $400.

If I were in a pinch like you speak of, I'd check both of them out.
