ampeg jet 112 combo

How do the reissues compare to the originals? Are they PCB?
The reservation I have with the vintage stuff from the 1960s that everyone loves is the 2 prong cord. That doesn't seem safe for a tube amp! I'm not an electrician; how hard/advisable would it be to change to 3 prong?

the reissues are nothing like the originals....i've heard good sounding ones from all eras tho'....my personal fave is the ones with 7591 output tubes.....but be ready to spend a good amount on tubes if you go that route....

2 to 3 prong is very easy for any tech to do and ought to be done whenever you get an old amp with a 2 prong plug.....not a reason at all to shy away from a nice vinatge amp......

7591 Tubes

I'm no expert, but I do have a couple of ampegs, and I think Electro Harmonix now makes a decent 7591, although the amp repairers among you might correct me.

Also, those tubes last a very, very, very long time. One word of caution though, the old Reverberockets look bigger than a Deluxe, but they're about as loud as a Princeton.

I had a reissue Reverberocket and it sounded pretty good, but it sounded a little like a facsimile of an amp compared to old Fenders and Ampegs.

I find the SLM

reisues to be OK amps..but lousy Ampegs. If one works for you as a GP amp cool, but don't buy one if you are looking for the authentic Ampeg sound. The 7591 are very understressd in most Ampegs, it is not unusal for these amps to still be using original tubes, they are available NOS from HI-Fi suppliers for resonable $$. The three prong conversion can be done by any good tech.

I agree that the PCB based reissues are nothing like the originals. The originals sounded GREAT. Those 7591 tubes in cathode bias had a great smooth distortion when cranked. And yes, Sovtek now makes a real 7591 replacement.

Regarding the old Reverberockets, the ones with the 12AX7 and 6U10 preamp tubes, I've heard one that was LOUD. Of course, it has an Altec 12 incher in it. You can probably catch a recorded example of that amp at www.mighty-mike.com.
