controllable/musical feedback on tweed amps

Without using any pedals,......only humbuckers and LOTS of volume,is getting that nice natural feedback and long sustains hard for some of you tweed amp players? My Vic DD sometimes gets a bit squeally on me.Just wanna know if anyone has the same results.

Do you think the potting of the pickups (id tgey need more) may be giving you some undesirable feedback? Or the speaker is doing some cone cry?

Not without a boost only because my amp is too dark without one. I run it clean with it's volume up high to push the amp to the edge with my guitar's volume around 8 or so. Then there is no problem getting it.

I know that this will get under the skin of some purists, but I use a Carl Martin comp into a Barber tone press. I have the CM set as I would w/o the Barber, then I simply use the TP to boost the signal and add a little more sustain.
I can get really nice FB with this configuration. The other thing that it does is it opens up the amp and I get a very substantial tone. It isn't thin, rather it is full, and is just perfect for a tele. Especially when playing jazz. Very present w/o being overpowering.

Question is, "Will tweed amps feed back with no pedals?"

There are two ways to get there:

Volume and

Gain

A really good tweed Champ of a modded BF / SF will do it. There's not much volume there so it's a matter of hot pickups, a hot tube in the V1 and proximiity to the amp. I'm talkin'a stock- ish tweed. Modded with extra gain stages is like using a pedal. Pedals are cheatin' in this context.

There isn''t a lotta gain in sometjing like a tweed Deluxe so you'll have to shove the guitar right against the speaker. That's what I like about a tweed Deluxe, It sounds like there's a lot of gain there but there isn't. That means there's distortion but it's controllable.

A big loud tweed like a Bassman will get feedback on sheer volume. Use a 12AX7 instead of a 12AY7 on the front end, it's the same as an old Marshall. Can you imagine standin' in front of a ctranked stack and not gettin' feedback?

Yeah i was thinking about maybe trying out a tweed bassman, or a marshall bluesbreaker,I know it's not a tweed, but i use to have one and it sounded pretty cool and got some nice musical feedback. The kind of feedback that somehow blends in and out of single note runs.I just got my 335 back.Maybe the new pick ups will do that now. Thanks for tips ya'll.
