Intresting Pro Reverb Discovery

I've been playing a 1973 AA270 Pro Reverb as my main amp for about 2 months now and i never really looked in the back of the 15" baffle it has. (ironic cause i took numerous looks inside the chassis). To my surprise, it has a Electro-Voice EVM-15L speaker in it (though as i also discovered, with numerous rips in the cone). Interesting mojo right! Just thought I'd share

Fender used EVs occasionally instead of their Fender branded Speakers. StratBluesRock has EVs in his SF Twin and he loves them.

Yes, bizarre that someone who looks around in the chassis of their amplifier had no idea what speaker was back there for so long.

You should easily be able to fix the rips in the cone. I use small pieces of black construction paper and I put glue on one side of the const. paper and I place the patch over the tear, from the back. I have fixed many speakers like this. The EV is a great speaker. I have one but it's still in the original box.

Who was the guy in the 60s who used to rip his speakers to get a distinct tone? His name escapes me...might have been Link Wray but not sure.

Ripping up the cone just reduces volume. Doesn't help the distortion tone. Don't ask me how I know.

Yup the custom 15" baffle is what attracted me to the amp (and the fact I got it for a steal from a local sale from a guy that obtained it in an estate sale). It's got decent mojo too.
