Fender Ultimate Chorus....buy?

My local mom and pop guitar store has a Fender Ultimate Chorus and they are asking $250. I love the Roland JC-120, but can't swing the $1100 they are getting down here. Should I grab this amp? It may be a little heavy, but there are casters on the amp, and with the shop only a few blocks from home I could ride the amp home...lol.

What is the general consensus on this amp?

And sorry if I didn't answer your question, I don't know anything about the amp other than it's a solid state modelling amp, 2x12 65 watts. It's supposedly good for cleans and very loud, but will never get the preferred (to me anyway) sound of a tube amp pushed to the edge. YMMV though

$250 sounds a little high, but as far as solid state amps go, that's a good one. I've read here several times that it was the best SS amp Fender produced. I had one for a while and enjoyed it (nice cleans, great chorus), but don't regret trading it away. If you think it would satisfy your JC-120 love for now, go for it.

They made them 20 years ago. I had one. The caps might dry out pretty soon. They have held their value. I remember it not keeping up with a drummer.

I have one, an earlier pre-DSP version. As you would expect, the chorus is very nice through the two 12's. When the chorus is off you get both channels combined for a total of 130 watts. The cleans are pretty good as is the reverb. The drive channel isn't bad and there are plenty of knobs to tweak the sound. It's not a tube amp, so you still may not get the kind of distortion you want. I've never run pedals through it.

Those who look into the back of an amp before they decide whether they are going to like it or not may not like it, but I think it'll please a lot of people.

Take your own guitar and plug in and see if it suits you and the music you play.

I suggest no. There are too many good deals on used JC-120's. If the idea of buying them used from eBay and having them shipped to you doesn't agree with you, then sure, go for the Ultimate Chorus.
