What's your guitar/amp price differential?

I'm currently playing out of a Fender Champion 600 and a Mustang II and liking the tone so much I'm selling my Classic 30. I want to eventually get a new HRD III but I'm not going to be gigging as much the next few months. I find it funny that I'm playing my American Strat and Tele out of less than $200 Chinese amps.

Horses for courses, Mate.

I enjoy the subtleties of my amps so much, that whenever I plug into (IMHO) less "complex" amps I notice and stop enjoying myself as much, even if other listeners couldn't give a toss or tell the difference.

If they do it for you, thats uber cool.

Edit: My No1 Tele and Strat each have = value to main gigging Amp - rest of my herd and back-ups have maybe 1/3 value of that amp.

Amp is King (70%) of your tone. IMHO

Both my main amps are worth way more than my main guitars - a 1971 Hiwatt Custom 100 and a 1969 Vox AC-30. My guitars are worth maybe £400 for the MIJ Strat and a little more for the Tele. I'd have to add all the guitars together to even get close.
I didn't plan it this way, or have any particular reason. That's just how it worked out.

My main (and most expensive) guitar was $600, my main (and most expensive) amp was $400. My other amp was $125, thanks to a TDPRIer.

I have three amps, $100+$60+$40 and two Telecasters, $720+$400. But you could argue that the ~$600 I spent for DAW software, interface, control surface and studio monitors is also part of my "amp budget".

I play a Les Paul with a DRRI or my TRRI. Equal in price with my pedalboard too.

Going expensive on a guitar is not going to make me sound any better than a mexi with a pickup upgrade. I took back an $1100.00 Am Std strat because it wasn't THAT much better than my mexi.

04 mim strat 250.00 lace sensor gold pickups 100.00
04 mim tele 300.00 OV pickups 80.00
06 hiway 1 strat 300.00
04 Godin exit 22-s 400.00 (best player of them all)
76 princeton reverb 400.00
muchxs 5f1 build good ole fashioned horse tradin'

I agree man. I just think my cheapo amps do as good of a job as my Classic 30.

+1 on that. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. What ever works for you is what inspires you to play. End of story.

about 500 more for the amp, comparing new for partscasters 800 drri vs 250+100 mim strat + cs pups

And in turn almost 200 in upgrades for the amp

There's a $400 difference between my #1 guitar (my Strat) and my main amp, a Mesa-Boogie TA-30.

Mine are closely priced. I believe I paid $399 for my Tele Special back in '94, and my amp retails for $449. Its a Jet City JCA2112RC. I got it used for $200 though. Great sounding amp.

About Zero. Both are hand-assembled one-of-a-kind pieces.

Amp is by Anderson Amps, 20 watt reverb, single 12 with 12-inch ext cab. $1500.

Guitar is a Pinup built by Eric Daw at Emerald City Guitars (see avatar). Incredible thinline $1500.

The quilaity of my playing doesn't do justice to the instrument, but I could afford them, so what the heck?

I usually send way more on a guitar than an amp. I've been lucky throughout the years finding cool vintage amps at very good prices. I like the Gibson and Fender CS stuff for guitars and they dont come cheap.

12 guitars worth ~$9,200

vs.

9 amps & cabs worth ~$5,800

Looks like I'm ~1.5 to 1 ratio.

Don't get me started on my PA.

My guitars and amps are very close in price. I didn't set out to make it that way, it's just how things ended up. I currently have a 1975 Fender SF PR (roughly $1500) and a Mesa Boogie Lonestar Special (roughly $2000). For guitars I have an American Deluxe Strat ($1500), 52 AVRI Hot Rod Tele ($1700) and a Les Paul Traitional ($2250). There's not that great of a difference in price between the Mesa and Les Paul and there's not much of a difference in price between the Strat and the Tele and the Princeton. However, there is only so much that I'm willing to spend on an amp (or a guitar) though, and $2000-$2500 is about it in either case.

+1, I've been lucky to buy several vintage amps that usually go for
$1500-2000 for less than $800.
My guitars run from a couple of Custom Shop models down to a
MIM Classis 50.
So, I've paid more for guitars, but my amps have more value.

i think it was the guy who built the trainwreck amps said guitar players spend more on guitars than the amp, when the amp is there tone. makes sense. seems like he would of been cool to hang around with and drink a few cups of coffee or in my case iced tea.

all my stuff is cheap but well built. and im happy so far at my skill level.

It's not just about dollars spent. My amp head (a Metro JTM45 that I built) was $1,000....if it was assembled by a company it'd easily cost 2 grand. My cab was about 500 total (a 2x12 with a G12H30 and a Blue). That makes my amp more expensive than my guitars (an Am Std Tele and a Les Paul Special DC), even after modifications, by about $500.

Same here...

I built my own amp and assembled my tele... they are about equal in value.
