Yea you can find a lot of different speakers in the 70's stuff (60's too). I have a 70's champ that came with a blue fender sticker on the speaker that was a pyle speaker(yuk). My 81 SFVC came with an oxford ceramic , but most came with the oxford 8EV-59 alnico

Oxfords were the most common but anything cheap at the time is possible. Fender bought in bulk.
That being said, My take is unless you have the rare original speaker not overworked back in the day or dried out in the interim, you're better boxing up that Original and replacing with a more efficient modern variant. A Weber Sig will do nicely for not much dosh shipped. My fave for the champ is a Ceramic Sig8s. |

The Oxford like pictured above is whats in the drip edge VC I have. Untill this thread I never bothered to find out what it is but looks just like that one.
Sound wise it seems fine but I prefer it through a 2x12 Bandmaster cab and that kind'a ruins the whole little easy to carry amp thing. |

Thanks for the info guys. I've dated mine to a 76. Mine came with a non original Eminence OEM which barely fits, but sounds pretty good. However, I was thinking I'd like to get as close to the original as possible. I bought a Weber Sig 8A, but wasn't too impressed. Lost some clarity and seemed a little lifeless. Since they seem to have switched to ceramic's around the time mine was made maybe I should give the Ceramic Sig 8S a try.
