all of my previous post outta the way...

perhaps an AC30 head/cabinet? weighs more but can be carried in two loads.

see if you can go demo a USED victorilux 310 in 6L6 flavor. not a true bandmaster in the output stage, with low output pickups (single coils) and no pedals to push the pre-amp, it stays clean to near max volume. the trem is (sacrilege alert~~purists avert your eyes) what Leo wished he had back then. the 'verb is great also, but not my thing really. i rarely use it. the weight will surprise you in its absence.

pls see:
http://www.harmonycentral.com/search...ictorilux+310*

down side---used these are right at the top end of your price range.
but i love mine, as do the harmony central fellers above.

PS-multi watt options, per Mark Baier
18 watts with (2)6V6 and 5Y3 rectifier
35 watts with (2)6L6 and 5AR4 rectifier

Check out the Functionality in the modern Trem pedals. The choices of "wave form" (Choppy like Pink Floyd in Money) or Sine wave smooth, plus Tap Tempo and internal boost really make 'em super functional.

That would open up your choices a lot - those little Mesa's, Fender Supersonics, or even a higher powered 5E3 - I've seen some guys build em with 20 watts and a Neo speaker - lightweight!

I vote AC30 anyway. Heavy, but that is what bandmates are for. Decent built in trem. The verb is not so hot though....I get verb and trem from pedals. I play two Cramps covers in my band and plenty of jangly Johnny Marr sounding guitar. The AC30 can do everything save for high gain. I have an AC15 as well, and honestly it is not loud enough unless you have a pretty quiet drummer.

I'm a fender guy so I would say a Super Sonic, Vibroverb, or Princeton Reverb with an od pedal.

I've got a pretty bad back, & live by myself - putting an ac30 in my car to get to rehearsal is the problem, getting it out when there is ok when ive got someone to help...but by then my back is so sore and playing becomes an issue...Even the AC15 i had, given its size was about all i can carry by myself.

What about the Vox Valvetronix? The 30 watt will wake the neighbors, and is not back breakingly heavy.

Deluxe Reverb, silverface if one turns up in Oz, otherwise DRRI. Put some decent glass into it, let the speaker break in before passing judgement on it. Pretty much what you're looking for...

I gigged a HRDX (Mexican) for years, wouldn't mind having another one around-great amp, just a couple tweaks and it was a real workhorse, never let me down in 5+ years of every weekend gigging... I used to stick a tremolo pedal in effects loop (Dano tuna melt, no less!) and it was fine... the only thing is, they're not really chimey like a Vox can be... still not bad, though, and at 45 lbs (21kg) in stock form, manageable. Blues Deluxe would work real nicely too if one turns up...

YES! Best buy in the amp world. Got mine for $100. Great tone--believe in the transtube circuit!--and loud. 80 watts or 100 if you push an external cab. I defy a drummer to outblast one. I play mine with a loud drummer at between 2 and 3. And built like a tank. Like the sound so much that I bought an Envoy 110 head unit (40 watt version of the Bandit) from a fellow forumite to build a head cab for home use or rehearsals. Can't wait to get to work on it.

I would say AC30, as I'm an AC30-type-of-a-guy. But you said "too heavy", so I'll say...

This, usually they have a very noice reverb.

And then...

...this. I just picked up a 50watt (I think) teal stripe Transtube Bandit that needs some work done (fuses keep blowing) for silly $$$. When I plug in my Dano Baritone through my Marshall Vibratrem, it will be the "Spaghetti Western Rig of Doom", my friend
Add a good OD, and it's everything you'll probably need.

I picked this up recently. It's an '82 50 watt Bandit...

It was stored in a basement and needed a good cleaning. I replaced the reverb, sprayed out the pots and now it's good to go. The old Scorpion speaker is quite nice! And it's LOUD. The price was right too. It was a freebie!

Quick question for you bandit guys - theres one for sale in a local paper, a red stripe model for $200...apparently in mint condition. I know nothing about what would be a good deal for these amps - is this good?

I think a little market research is in order. I wouldn't pay that where I live unless I really wanted it, and the amp was mint and came with a footswitch. That being said, Bandit's aren't hard to find here. If it's a US made model and Bandit's are scarce where you're at, I'd say go for it. Heck, even the made in China one's get a lot of love around here.

The bottom line is if it's been taken care of and works well, you would have a hard time finding a better amp for that money. You should expect great tone and a lifetime of service with minimal cost of upkeep.
