All around playing & playing loudly - Micro Terror. The volume range of the Pico and the Micro Terror are so different that it's hard to compare the two. I would have to ask what your priorities are. The Lil' Night Train let me down because at two watts I could barley dial a spanky clean that was as loud as speaking volume. You could rock your head off with the Lil' Night Train but 2 watts for a punchy clean amp doesn't cut it (my opinion). There are a couple gentlemen on the TDPRI who love the cleans that they get from a Lil' Night Train and man I couldn't make it happen. I love my standard Night Train. I wanted my Lil' Night Train to work in the best way and it didn't work for me. iPhone video. Dumbest Demo Content Ever.......(I would fail as a stand up comedian).......

sounds good till the gain is turn up then the cam is distorting some not giving the good sound as before.. so i can only conclude is a darn nice sounding little amp.. the match box car sound will keep the kids entertain when they are bored with practice? heh.
thanks, i still think i want one.. just to put next to my desk. cute little orange speaker box.. guess would make for a mini micro stack with two 8" orange cabs.. laughs, hell if it was any smaller you could throw it in your gig bag. laughs. sorta surprised they did not throw a usb port on it.

Well, I liked it until I heard it. Nice demo, I just don't like that sound.
I think the smallest amp I'll get for practice is the VOX VT 15. I have a VOX ad15VT that sounds great. It's plenty portable but no, it won't fit in my pocket. That's OK with me. |

Bass amp makers have been making powerful, compact heads for years so it was about time for a real, workable guitar head of a smaller nature. That 12AX7 sounds like any hybrid amp with that sound with a much bigger footprint. I think the great push you are getting with just 20 watts has a lot to do with the Marshall closed back cabinet. I think an open backed cabinet, most likely custom made, will get far less volume, but a warmer tone.
It's a great rock and roll sounding amp with that Marshall cabinet and with mic, should be able to do any show without major issues. |

Okay, I'm sold! Seriously, this is igniting major GAS. I've been watching the ZT lunchbox threads, and the "small clean amp for tiny venues" thread, but this is the first thing that really excites me. I've been using my Little Lanilei as my main gigging amp. It's the smallest, loudest combo I've ever heard, tube or solid state, and it sounds great, but it's not a clean amp. At two pounds, the micro terror plus a small cabinet would still be pretty portable. I'm very interested to hear how clean and loud it can be with a smaller cabinet.

When the amp is smaller than your reverb pedal
I had wanted one of these amps since they showed it at namm , and i grabbed one online from GC. It arrived today. But there is something so odd when the amp is smaller than your reverb pedal. Note the speaker is an Orange OPC212 , a 2 x 12 cab. not a 4 by lol

That's a nice cabinet that you have. Do you have a Micro terror or some other head? I'm assuming that you had the head longer than the cab. Nice rig.

I have a few heads, but i got that orange 2x12 a few years ago along with a Dual Terror. I traded in the Dual terror toward a new gibson lespaul studio last year. I am guessing the tube in this Micro terror is the same ones they use in the Dual terror. i had to retube the dual terror to get rid of the buzz and annoying crackling when adjusting it. But for such a tiny amp and 20 watts,, it is a really cool toy. it isnt as loud as my lil night train, but i didnt expect it to be. But it is fun to play It warms up fast, and since it only has one tube i wont worry about turning it on and off alot. And for only one tube it does seem to break up nicely when turning the gain up. ill post on if the changing the tube cleared up the not so mild buzz etc |

And I almost forgot about this amp. I dunno why they don't make it with one of those super mean 6.5 speakers the lunchbox comes with. 1 regular 8 sounds like fart city. I was speaking a combo that is.

As much as I need it like the proverbial hole in the head (I already own a regular TT), I want one badly. £95 through Thomann. God I hate GAS.

A question for the few actual Micro Terror owner out there:
How does the tube front end take pedals, especially boost and overdrive pedals? One of the problems I have with smaller "practice" amps that simulate or model tubes is that, while they can sound really good on their own, they don't react the same as a normal 12AX7 input stage to being overdriven. Modelers are especailly prone to this, but so is my Vox Amp Plug, which is a solid-state emulation of a Marshall, but not a model. Since the Micro Terror has a 12AX7 input stage, I'm wondering if it reacts the same as a normal tube amp to boost. If so, I need to get one.

To me it looks like a good investment. SO many people keep trash talking that its a horrible amp because its small and doesnt give you that boost. But obviously a amp head that can fit in a lunchbox isnt made for arena gigs. This thing is made to be with friends at the beach (horrible example) . . . At a park or so you know taking turns playin some stuff.
But ive look into this mini amp and discovered it does NOT run on batteries. Quite a buzzkill. It has an adapter though. Does anyone know how to (somehow) make it run on batteries (i dont mean cars batts. I seen those on venice beach.) |

I tried a BBE Boosta Grande with it and the Boosta worked perfectly but the Boosta is a clean boost.....it just gets you "louder". I think you want someone to push the front of the amp with something like a DOD 250. I have 250 reissue. I should have tried that but I didn't grab it this morning (sorry). Overdrive pedals sounded very nice.

Love the looks, just not sure about how it'd sound.
I had a TT for a while, bought mostly based on all the hype, but the more I played it, the less I liked it - to me it just sounded muffled. Cool looks though.... |

The insides of it
This morning i decided to try a tube change, there is a slight buzz and i wasnt sure if it was just the amp or me . I tried a few different brand tubes with out any difference. a groove tube , a jj ruby, a sovtek. no noticeable difference.
I did notice a very slight gain drop and also noise drop using a 12ax7b (china) that came out of my vox. I kind of liked that one and left it in. But here are 3 quick shots of the insides, since i took the cover off it was only 4 more screws to take the inside plate of. |
