Back to Basics

Been coming back to grips that the tonal nirvana I've been seeking is the one I had many years ago, set aside for some reason, and have been foolishly trying to re-capture. No more - as some woodshedding and reality checks have revealed what I already knew, but was afraid to admit: What has always been the best, hands down (for my needs, tastes, and wants)

MusicMan heads with a wide selection of cabinets. An RD50 with a 2-10 AlNoCo cab is a work of art, same head with a 1-15 D130 JBL is a different kind of sonic art...A SixtyFive Reverb head with either cab produces a whole different set of tele fired tones, suitable for any job (Clapton didn't seem to mind them too much)..

Point - as I've ripened (gotten older) all this stuff about having a dozen flavors of amps seems to have gotten silly. The last experiment sounded great, but I couldn't justify lifting it (10 space rack..). There's always gonna be a Special 130 in the bus as a backup (and a dern good one at that) but all this other stuff has just become superfluous...

Smoking Tele - 6 good effects (under remote switching, out of the way) - MusicMan head/choice cab...if that don't get it done, I'll sack groceries

So, as Dad and the song both say - "Dance with the one who brung ya to the ball," Good advice.

True, to a degree...it took a bit of time to warm up to MM, as when they 1st came out way back when, I (moment of truth here), I remember kinda not liking them. Back then, I was really into Ampeg V22's, Marshall heads with open back cabs, etc...

But amp tastes, but like wine, tend to mature as one matures. Plus, the versatility of head/cab choice to suit any gig while still maintaining the basic sound of what I expect = priceless...

As I have aged the lighter the amp, the better the sound.

Yeah, man...56 here. 40% service connected, and still find ways to move the stuff . But, I don't go out of my 'weigh' to look for the heaviest stuff either
