Pro Jr loves a P10R

Having replaced the stock brown label ceramic with a rajin cajun, weber C10Q, P10Q, a bunch of 12 and even a couple 15s - the amp finally felt 'rIght' with a Jensen RI P10R.

I think in an effort to get a bigger, cleaner, less boxy sound out of the amp it never quite the congruity like it does with this lightweight alnico. In a way, the Jensen enhances - but in a very pleasing wat - the boxy, "Lo-fi" ness of the circuit and small cabinet (I have removed the NFB for more grit and tweediness).

With the amp on halfway and guitar Vol backed off i was in clean blues, soul and swing territory - a nice liveliness to the notes. However, fun really happened when I cranked the Tele up, and would the amp 3/4 up a cranked out some Black Crowes-esque roots rock. Deliciously gritty, tons of gnarly attitude. Even responded nicely to drop D.

Rather than making the amp what it's not I think the Jensen sent or headlong down the path it should have always gone. This amp/speaker combo is a good one.

Cool info, had a friend who used a Pro Jr that had the Fender blue frame in it. It was just right in that amp.
Next Pro Jr I find I'll have to try the Jensen P10R, thanks.

My apologies for the atrocious typos... I shouldn't post from the iPhone

Now I'm thinking about pairing up a P10R and P12R in my Tweed Pro (5E5-A) clone ie "a bit more" than a Tweed Super.

Cool, I bet its not dissimilar to the blue alnico in my PJ. Good to know there's a decent alternative.

I put one in mine also, it does do a lot of good things. But just as a warning to anyone thinking of it it the P10R in a Pro Jr. does make a bright amp.

I think this is where having my pro jr's NFB loop removed works good for me- inherently making the amp darker, looser and less stiff. The p10r adds back some top end and enhances the raunchy, dirty vibe.

Also I got my speaker used, so it's probably been broken in somewhat and perhaps less spiky compared to a brand new of the same.
