What are your favorite 8-inch speakers?

For a decent sounding practice amp, that is. Without costing more than the amp.... :?

Also, there's the Celestion Vintage 8, or Weber P8Q

The V8 is more money, but rated at 60W. I put one of these in a little 35W Tokai "practice" amp and now I gig with it quite regularly when I want to travel super-light. People are always stunned by the loudness of this tiny amp and I think the speaker is a big part of that.

For a slightly more up-market Weber, I got a P8Q in my 6W Vibro Champ, and while I don't think it's quite as strong as the Celestion (rated at 15W I think?), it's got a great sound that really seems to bring out the best of what the VC has to offer.

Does remind me of a crazy idea I had. Time for a new topic...

P8Q worth the $$

The weber siganture series is a definite improvement over a stock Champ speaker, but the P8Q makes a big difference. Hard to belive that it's an 8"!!

I have a couple of 8" alnicos from a no-name 60's tube amp. The amp died but I kept these speakers, 4ohms each. They are fantastic, look like jensens but no name or numbers on them.

If you want the pair you can have them for $30. I don't have any use for 8" speakers now.

What about the cone surface?

I see Weber has a choice of smooth or ribbed cones. What would the difference in sound be?
