Best used home amp under $200?

Downsizing my amps. In need of a little amp for my house. Looking to keep it under $200. Any suggestions??? Would love tube, def not into amps loaded with digital effects etc. I prefer simple, one channel amps that take my equally simple pedals.

I am in love with my used Fender Super Champ XD. $185 in like new condition. It is a DSP / tube hybrid. It has a bunch of on board models and effects and also works well as a single channel blackface Fender with reverb.

What volume are you looking for. I know it's a home amp, but that can range from "bleeding ears in the man cave" to "shhhh! don't wake the kids!"

I hear your desire for a tube amp. I'd look for a used Peavey. There are Bandits everywhere. I just saw a Special 130 for $175 on CL. I need a new amp like a hole in the head and I was tempted. With a decent-sized Peavey, you could take it out to gigs, if you ever need to. Plus it'll last for ages.

If its tube, 5w would be perfect. SS I'd go up to 30w or so. I prefer a combo but I do have a couple of cabs I could use. O had a peavey royal 8, awesome amp. Just don't seem to be many around.

I like it, too. It's a 2 channel amp...so forget the 2nd channel & digital effects if you like...(I did). Channel 1 is a beautiful Fender clean at even the lowest volume and the onboard reverb is nice (digital, but very very nice). I ran all kinds of pedals into mine & it worked well.

There are a couple of them on my local Cl. Might have to check them out.

I'd love a pro Jr, but there aren't any near me that are below $275. $200 is my limit. That would be an ideal amp. They don't get much simpler than that!

SCXD. The MV is great for home use. You also get channel switching, some decent models and effects, and its got toobz! (Well, a couple of 'em, anyway)

I got a few really nice tube amps & I suppose a couple would work for ya (PJ, SFPR, Silvertone 1481, little PV thing that they sold about three of, etc.) & owned several of the bigger/legendary Fenders. I also have a Vox Pathfinder R & I ain't no Vox fanatic, only one I've ever really owned.

Go to the nearest shop or order a new PF-R and don't look back. I love tube amps but in yer case, try a PF-R.

Trust me.

I'm a fan of the Marshall AVT amps. They are a discontinued hybrid amp, using a 12ax7 tube. Their clean channels are great and take pedals really well. I'd get the AVT with the most watts that fits your budget.

I like the VOX AD__VT series of amps too. They are a modeling hybrid, but I don't think they take pedals as well as the Marshall AVT's, IMO.

Although not a tube amp, the Peavey transtube amps are a good choice and take pedals well on the clean channel.

Bet you'd have a blast with a microcube (Roland). If you're talking about around the house it's plenty loud. I've had one since they first came out. I used it with the AC adaptor. One day I read on this forum stories of guys getting incredible mileage out of a set of 6 AA's. I popped some in and they lasted for 11 months. I have other amps, but it's the one I have beside me while at the PC. I used it extensively while away from home for most of one summer and it held court with a few guys on amplified acoustics and harp.

Just poked around on Cl. There's a Princeton chorus for $125, a super champ xd for $175 and a crate v18 for $110. All are intriguing.

The Crate V18 is a great amp. I would jump all over it for 110 dollars. I would prefer that to any Fender Champ for pure sound. The only thing the champ has is it is smaller.

I've got the V18-112, and it gets loud. That's a good price for it. Is it the Palomino or the black one? The black ones have heavily doped speakers, very bassy and the reverb is ridiculous. But I love mine anyway.

The champ XD does have a greater tonal range.

Its the black one. I'd probably swap the speaker out to clear it up. Heard celestions work well.

Dig mine, tubes had been changed by the previous owner, that was it. I just turn the bass and reverb all the way down and use my pedals. Picked it up for a song as well, had to replace my Palomino V8, lead guitar player was killing me with his Musicman.
