Cab Size for Bass
Thanks for reading this,
I want to build a small cab with 2x8". I was wondering if I should make it sealed or ported. I was wondering what the dimensions should be. This is the speaker........ I want to use 2 in this cab ! http://editweb.iglou.com/eminence/em...kers/beta8.htm Thanks, John

Try this...
Outside demensions: 20"H X 12"W X 11" D with a 2" diameter port in the back. Build it out of 1/2" or 3/4" plywood and make sure the baffle is glued in good and tight. Use 2" or 3" inch insulation for damping. Wire the speakers parallel for a 4-ohm load. Power it with a SF bassman 50 (or maybe an Acoustic 140?). Let me know how it sounds.

2x8
How did you come up with such a big cab ?
The specs say a 1.1 cu.ft. box. I want to set it on a 1x15". No crossover. JJ

I am a genius...
Not really. I just multiplied the estimated interior measurement of my daughter's LA 8 by 2. If you allow for the thickness of the wood it comes out to about 1.2 cubic feet. Not bad for a shot in the dark. I got the port size by taking half of the port diameter on my Basic Black. Don't forget, I said try it and get back to me.
