Can I use a 4 ohm Spkr in place of 8 ohm spkr in Transformer
I have this 1960`s "El-Cheapo" Guitar amplifier,Made by Pine Electronics of Montreal.
This amp is "Transformerless" and uses a 50L6 and a 35Z5 Tubes and a "Multi" Can-Cap.(I haven`t taken out the chassis yet to check the Can-Cap values.***YES I USE AN ISOLATION TRANSFORMER WITH THIS AMP*** !!!!! My Main Question is: I have this "Heavy-Duty" Little 6" European Alnico-Magnet Speaker that I`d like to try in this "Bluesy" little amp,BUT,the 6" European Speaker "Reads" 3.4 ohms=(4 ohms). The Original Speaker is a little 8" (Jensen*I Believe) but is 8 ohm!!! Can I use this other speaker, without causing things to Burn-Up (Output Transformer...Maybe????). Thanks in advance for any info you can give to me.I`d really like to try some different low powered speakers!!! Good Luck & Good Music... vintagetele/oldave

Typically, tube amps don't have too much issue with 1/2 loads (Marshall is another story).
I doubt that this little amp can generate enough current at the output terminals to cook anything. Most Fenders will drive a dead short. If it were me, I'd have no problem swapping the speaker..standard disclaimer applies.. :) |
