Small Bassman style tube amp?

Can anyone recommend a small tube amp that sounds close to a Bassman? Something that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, so boutique is probably not an option.
thanks

Depends on which Bassman you're talking about. There's the old tweeds, which have no end of offspring, but few clones, and there are the black and silverface models.

For tweed, well, there's probably not a whole heck of a lot outside the botique market. Remember though, Marshall stole that design, and elements of that style are still making them money, as well as about a million other builders.

I found my old Reverend Hellhound to be very blackface Bassmanish in the nice, rounded way. It also had some very spanky Deluxe tones as well. I'm sure the newer Reverend Kingsnake is just more of the same. In all honesty though, I doubt you'll get quite the low end rumble with the Reverend that you will with the big ol' transformers in a real bassman.

This guy built me a 1x12 Tweed w/ 2 6L6's in it I call it a Tweed Proluxe.

Very reasonable prices.

Heres mine.

His name is Steven Gupta.

Bassman-alikes

The old Sovtek MIG50 was apparently a tweed bassman knockoff in head form. Also, a Traynor YBA-1 (NOT YBA-1A) was very similar, usually with different output tubes, though. After the received the "rubber-baby-buggy-bumpers" edges, they strayed a lot more, though they are easy to return to the tweed area. They probably don't nail the tone exactly, but they are on the same playing field.
