NAD - Super Champ X2

So I just got a Super Champ X2. I had been debating between that and a Pro Junior. I had actually been leaning toward the Pro, because I'm not really a fan of the Blackface look, and I was worried that the controls on the SCX2 would be cheap. (I needn't have worried). What through it over the edge to the SCX2 over the Pro is the realization that I would have a hard time cranking the Pro and still keeping reasonable volume levels, whereas the SCX2 would be a little easier to deal with on that front.

So it was delivered today, and man, this thing is amazing. I can't believe how big this thing sounds, considering how small it is. I thought the smaller cab with the 10 inch speaker would sound boxy (to be fair, I had the same concern about the Pro, but the intent with either amp was always to get a bigger cab and a 12 inch speaker). But that is definitely not the case. Don't get me wrong, I'm still going to get a bigger cab with different cosmetics and a 12 in. speaker, but now it's definitely more of a want than a need.

Here's some pics, so you'll know it happened:

Yeah, I know these photos suck, but it's a camera phone.

Interestingly, when I was first trying to figure out what amp to buy, I briefly considered a DRRI, but quickly decided against it because I thought I ultimately wouldn't care for the tone. So guess which amp model is my favorite so far. Yep, the 65 Deluxe Reverb. Followed closely by the 65 Twin. Figures.

Funny. I just bought a Blues Jr Green board with the intention of doing the Billm mods. (they are in the mail) The day after I bought it, I walked into my local Long and McQuade and there was a Super Champ X2 head hooked up to a Mesa 2x12 cab. I fired it up and it BLEW MY MIND! Instant buyers remorse! I haven't heard the combo yet, and I'm curious how much difference the cab will make.

I have since fallen in love with the Blues Junior and it's not going anywhere, but they are small amps right? Why can't I have both?

Heck, yeah! Get 'em both! I'm thinking I'm still gonna get the Pro Junior, once I upgrade the cab an get a 12 in. for the SCX2.

Ok, so the amp is going back. There seems to be a fault with it. After about 15 minutes of playing, theres a buzzing sound that occurs when I hit the D string on the 10th through 13th fret. It happens on every guitar I try. It gets progressively worse till it eventually wheezes like an android with a five pack a day habit trying to run a marathon.

At first I thought a tube might be seated wrong, or was maybe microphonic. Checked for that and that wasn't it. There doesn't seem to be anything loose in the cabinet, and I have no intention of digging around in the chassis. So I'm sending it back for replacement. Hopefully, the replacement will work better.

I have carried the super champ xd with me as a back up to many gigs. I have used it 3 times as the back up. Once mic'd to the onboard speaker, once into a mic'd 1x12 cab, and once straight into the board. It sounded great. I keep it in my home office with a guitar plugged into it 24-7 and it gets played spontaneously several times a week. Got it with and upgraded jensen speaker off eBay for $200.
