Blew my Speaker in my Fender Blues Deluxe. Suggestions on replacements?
As the title says I finally blew my speaker. I play loud indie rock through my telecaster and pedals, the quality usually being pretty bright. I've never replaced speakers before so if you could suggest a good speaker that will work in my amp it would be greatly appreciated. My amp tech suggested an Eminence. Thanks for your help TDPRI!

Big fan of Emi Legends in this amp; I have an Eminence GB128, and it's excellent. My best all around amp at the moment.

+1 to what fezz says.
Just a note, according to the spec page for the BDRI on Fender's website, they say the speaker is an Eminence Special design 8 ohm rated @ 50 watts. If that's true there's not much margin for error in a 40 watt amp.. Makes me wonder a little. Good luck on your speaker quest. |

I have an Emi Lil' Texas (Neo/125 watts) in my BJ and an Emi, Red, White, and Blues (120 watts) in my old DR, and they are loud and clear- sound wonderful clean or with OD's

you will never blow it up and it will always sound great the only down side is they are a bit pricey and HEAVY but if you don't mind the extra weight, it is money well spent

You COULD try a McCauley driver in there...a 550 watt liquid cooled driver (rolls off about 2.5K though) - A JBL K120 would give you lots of the clean stuff at full range, as would a PV Black Widow...
(How on Earth do you blow up any speaker other than a Bulldog or P12 in a 40 watt amp?) If you are really grooving on the original speaker's sound, you may want to just get an extension cab to equally distribute the power load, or another matching amp to get more volume at less power to the drivers...just an idea. Operating your amp at levels to blow up speakers can't be good for any equipment, or your ears. Even just a $79 mic and plugging into the PA could save a LOT of wear and tear on you and your gear. Y'know, the E120/K120 idea may be the best bet for loud AND clean as you mentioned

if i was going to buy a brand new speaker and price did not matter?
it would be the ev12l or fane axa series. for used i would go with a jbl e120 or an altec 412-8h srv used both the e120-e110 and e130 and the electrovoice speakers. all are heavy. but for me even iftheyf had a 40 pound magnet in it i would still use them..i do not care about weight. only sound and durability. probably nothing more durable than an ev or a jbl e series. |

Anybody on this here thread have any experience with the Emi Screamin' Eagle or Tonker? I have been reading A LOT on here and elsewhere trying to decide what speaker to put in home made birch ply 2x12 cab.
I would also love to find some threads on here relevant to my current dilemma. Perhaps some of you more exerienced tdpri'ers remember some? Grateful for the reply's. Rock out wit yer socks out. -Status- |

A free speaker is always to be preferred. Seriously, I'd love to try a swamp thing, and the cannabis rex is intriguing, but I also tend to like most of the speakers I've heard so I've been reluctant to whip out the credit card. I actually like the stock speakers in my deville 410 too.
