I looked at one briefly in a guitar shop. I stopped by on the wat to the doctor, so I didn't have time to plug in and give 'er a try. My buddy at that shop told me that it's a really valuable tool for him. The speaker is not a guitar speaker, it has to work with bass/drum sounds, so I think they went with a more "all-around" type of speaker. The effects are good for practicing, but I don't know that they'd be recording/gig worthy or not.

Great concept and I intend to test one thoroughly when I get time.

Tried one out

They're bringing them into our teaching studios at Richboro Music so I took one for a spin. They seem like a great teaching/practice tool, what with the built-in rhythm section. I'm looking forward to having one on the job.

Had one now for about 3 weeks...

Lots of fun for practice or foolin' around -

Here are things we found about the G-DEC.

1) The internal speaker does not have good sound and may turn many people off, however
2) Use headphones OR computer 3-piece speakers, 25 watts or better - will give real good sound as many of the effects are in STEREO!
3) All settings are changeable therefore the setups seem to be nearly endless.
4) You can use the drum tracks without using the bass run tracks.

I use mine alot plugged into the line in of my Soundblaster card in the computer and play along with MIDI files or MP3s. Of course I use my Fender Tele 2004 model 011-8502 plugged into the G-DEC. The country sounds I prefer are limited versus the sounds the rocker can get.

Thanks, Ty5 (Tony B) - A Short Legged, One Eyed Back Porch Guitar Picker.
P.S. I wish Ole Fuzzy would call my Tele a "Duck Plucker" - love that name!

I'm curious how the G-DEC compares, guitar-tone-wise, to the Microcube. I'm in the market for a small bedroom amp, (not for recording, midi, or teaching), and don't need "casio keyboard" backing tracks. Just a nice tone (as nice as one of these little things can produce). The G-DEC is over TWICE the price of the Microcube, and is 15W (which I don't need), BUT...

...if the G-DEC sounds alot better than the Microcube, it would be a consideration.

I think it would be a great teaching tool. You could load up your own custom MIDI files with drums and bass for students to play over. If the students could get their own, it would be even better to send 'em home with the "study material."

EDIT: Hmm, after closer examination, one may not be able to transfer MIDI files to the amp for storage. You might need to have it connected to a sequencer or a computer for that.
