Can anyone vouch for this builder?

Just lookling for some feedback...of any sort. I saw a mod that he was offering on eBay, and contacted him. I'm considering placing an order, so I'm concerned if there are any horror stories or rave reviews...

His name is Steven Scott, and he's in the Dallas area. I just talked with him on the phone, and he's a super nice guy, and really knew exactly what I was describing. We seemed to meet eye to eye on several things, so I feel good about it (I've not yet placed an order).

I was looking into his Blues Jr to 18-watt/tweed deluxe mod until I discovered the price...

While looking, there were many comments on http://www.18watt.com , where he is a poster. There is also a photo album of his work that looks good...

Yeah - the eBay ad that sparked my interest was the Blues Jr to 18 watt Marshall mod.

I don't currently have a Blues Jr., but you can find used ones around here for dirt cheap.

After talking with him, we agreed that a better course of action, for what I was wanting to do, would be for him build a 18 watt Marshall clone from scratch.

No channel switching, no effects loop, not even reverb. Just vol-treb-mid-bass, plus stand-by and on/off switches.

He's going to work up a proposal for me.

I do feel better knowing that he is part of an on-line community. At least I can read through that stuff and see what people are saying about him.

Best of luck to you--I've read through dozens of his posts and got a good feeling. Let us know how you like it, if it happens.

S2 is one of The Good Guys on the 18watt board. He definitely knows his stuff. I've heard nothing but good things about his work.

Not a thing to worry about dealing with S2. He's been around a long time.

Never heard a bad thing about him.

Bought a set of transformers from him, no probs.

I wouldn't hesitate to do business with him anytime.

Thanks guys...that's exactly the type of responses that I needed.

I just ordered it...just a Marshall 18-watt clone in a head.

He gave me the price yesterday, and it looked very resonable, for a hand built amp, to my exact specs.

I've always wanted a single channel, low power Marshall voiced amp, with minimal controls and no reverb. So that's what I'm getting!

This part here...

s2amps.com is best enjoyed if:

1) You have a web browser of some kind

2) You like electronic gizmo thingies

3) You have nothing better to do

4) You're drunk, stupid, or otherwise disoriented

:)

Steven told me that the website wasn't finished and that it probably never would be. Said he just didn't have the time.

We've emailed back and forth this morning, regarding the specs that I'm expecting. We'll probably not "press go" on this project until we're 100% sure that we're on the same page. So far, we are, but I'd hate for something to show up that was different than what I was expecting.

I do know that we're going to put it in a box much smaller than what Marshall did/does. A mini-plexi so to speak...I'm thinking about the size of a Sovtek MIG50.

Keep us posted.

I wasn't hip to the sound of the 18w Marshall until they
fired up a Bacino clone at my local store. Holy smokes!

Interested in PJ-to-18watt

I recall somebody posting the PJ-to-18 watt clone conversion on this page, and that it was being done for about $200, but I could be wrong.

I saw his BJ-to-18 and PJ-to-18 on eBay, and thought it was pricey, but with a warranty.
