VOX AC30HWH Cab Options
Hey Guys,
I'm looking into getting a new amp and the AC30HWH head seems like something i might be interested in. I was just wondering what cabs, other than the matching VOX cab, would complement this amp well (if any do). Don't really have the money to buy the VOX head and cab at the same time, so I'm looking to find something that can do the head justice without totally breaking the bank. I was looking into the Orange PPC212 (2x12), yes? no? other ideas? Any knowledge regarding the AC30HWH or alternate cabs available would be much appreciated. I want to at some point get the proper cab for it but at this time I can't afford both, the AC30 combos look nice as well but i would rather go the stack route if anyone asks. Thanks for your help. |

Ian I have an AC30CCH head which I have teamed with a Blackstar HTV 112 cab with a stock Celestion Seventy 80 16ohm speaker.
It is a big open back cab, the combination sounds great and it is a perfect match for the CCH head which is 24 inches wide. Your HWH head is a bit wider however at 27 3/4 inches so an option would be the Blackstar HTV 212 (28 inches Wide) which has 2 celestion seventy 80 speakers and can run at 8ohms mono or 16ohms stereo. Not expensive at around $300.

If you want the classic Vox AC30 sound, you absolutely must have Celestion Blues. Another very, very good combination is one G12H and one Blue. If you're looking for a well made new cabinet, Avatar is a very good choice and cheaper than many. If I were you I'd look for a good used 2x12 cab with G12H's in it (a pretty common thing) and switch at least one speaker to a Celestion Blue.
If you don't care about the classic Vox AC30 sound, most Celestion - voiced speakers will sound good (G12M greenbacks, G12H, G1265), other than V30s and G12T-75s, which just aren't voiced right for the AC30. |

I have the AC30HW2, combo. Love it! As you are talking about cabs, i take it you don't want a combo.
I don't have much knowledge on seperate head and cabs, but I would suggest trying out the combo just to hear the celestion greenbacks. I played a the AC30HWH with blues, and it did sound nice, but just make sure to try it out obviously! The blues may be too chimey for your liking, as the greens are still pretty chimey. I have no regrets with the greenbacks. A nice thing about the vox cabs is that they have high frequency de-fusers built in. Hope there was something useful in there! Tim |

The high-midrange spike in a V30 just is the wrong voice for the AC30, and makes the amp sound shrill and harsh. There is no way to adjust the controls on an AC30 to make a good sound with V30s.
