Twin Amp Help!

Greetings from Tulsa! I recently purchased a dual input Twin Amp (for $300 ) that came with a pair of eminence speakers rated at 8 ohms; one Tonespotter and one Tonker. I don't personally care for how they sound in the Twin Amp. To my untrained ears, the clean channel sounds like a blackface and the overdrive channel is early mesa boogie, but I feel as if the tone could be better, so I'm looking for speaker suggestions. I dropped the two middle tubes and switched the impedance selector in accordance to the owners manual and run the amp at 60 watts, playing primarily clean and over-driven rock music. If I utilize the 1/4 power switch, the amp gets extremely hot, which I assume isn't normal, so I'll continue running it with two tubes.

I'm also having a problem with the foot switch/channel switching. The amp will run on the normal channel or the gain channel, but not the overdrive channel. When I unplug the foot switch, it will only run on the overdrive channel. I do know that the knobs are push pull for channel select when the foot switch is unplugged. Am I missing something here or is there a malfunction within the amp? I just had it recapped and re-tubed and I feel that when I get this thing sorted out it will be a great sounding/versatile amp. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Roland

Couple things;

1. Go over the owner's manual very carefully for operational details... making sure you read every page and understand every operating feature's correct mode. Manuals were (once upon a time) written explicitly to give this kind of detail.

2. Call the tech who 'retubed and recapped' the amp and ask about the missing "features". A good tech should at LEAST note that obvious features aren't functioning when he has the amp on the bench. Perhaps he can offer some insights?

3. Sounds like several features may be on the fritz, what with a malfunctioning channel switching scheme and "runs real hot" when 1/4 power selected. I wonder what combination of problems is at work here.

My advice (as a tech) is to quote Wally

"Take it to a tech"

I looked for a schematic...but the site I went to didin't have the schematic for this amp. I am thinking just like CBG....bad switching circuit....bad jack, bad chip??? I also am in agreemetn abouat the tech who worked for you. That tech should have some thoughts on the particulars of that amp, imho.

Oh, and "Take it to a Tech" is the favorite saying of our good friend muchxs. I usually say....."Tech time!". (;^)
