Fair price for a '79 Fender Deluxe Reverb non-original
I am interested in opinions on what a fair price would be for a '79 Fender Deluxe Reverb in the following condition.
I am buying it from a relative and want to give him a fair price. He doesn't want anything for it. Thanks for any thoughts on the matter. Edit/Delete Message |

700 if it was not recapped in the last 20 years.
up to 950 if the caps are redone in the last 5 years, but that is getting pricey IMO. But for a turn Key DR no hassle maybe a no brainer. I passed on a 76 with a weber and a P12N for 1150, all original. I can still get it anytime I want. FWIW just one opinion...

I think that is low to be more than fair to all... Again, just IMO.

Not a whole lot original left on it.
All prices you listed are too high for me. I paid $700 for a 78 DR all original except for a cap job, 5 years ago. That was a good deal, but prices have dropped since then. Welcome, by the way. |

Sad, but only a few years ago, a decent SFTR would fetch $450. Guess they are more in demand!
I remember in the early 70's at our local music store, guys were trading in their blackfaces, and only getting 1-200 in trade. |

another nw opinion...
I got mines for about 500 with the reverb needing a solder and a bunch non-original, and needing caps... So I've got around 800 in mine (total) and feel like that's fair. Based on what I see on Craigslist, SFDR in decent shape sellers usually ask 800-900 and if it's a collectible, original condition DR people seem to want 1000+. (I figure closed deals probably average 700-800 around here.)
I think you're getting a good deal at $650--I think I might insist on paying uncle 500 and give many thanks... and make him lunch, bring some beers home to share, etc. : ) |

Your relative doesn't want it,... maybe he wants you to have it from the bottom of his heart. To give him full street value wouldn't allow him to feel as good about the 'gifting' part. Maybe as Mercy ^ says.... $500.00.... Does he or she 'need' the money?....
