Many new tube amps have the word "f****d" on the control panel.

Although it's completely invisible during normal operation, you do need to keep your credit card on standby for when it lights up.

This is you when that happens:

The radio stations and recording studios have the "On Air" light and of course when it is off that is "Stand By."

It could be worse than having to flip a "Stand By" switch. At least amps don't have to be "Crank Started" like old cars or "Hand Propped" like old airplanes.

My dad owned an old plane from the '30s when I was a kid. One cold morning I was pulling the prop when it kicked back, slapping my knuckles. My dad learned just how well I could cuss that day.

On topic, my Orange Rocker has 1 switch. It goes from off to standby to on. Very user friendly, so far. My other(need to find a better description) amp's standby switch is first. If read from left to right. Is this correct, or should things be read from right to left, making the power switch first? Why don't Chinese made amps have the switches one over the other? I was much less confused before I read this thread

DangerMan. Which StandBye switch do you throw first?
Are there some switches that you need two persons with
two separate keys issued by the president, to work simultaneously?
PLMK.

Is the picture of a 1950s backside first issue Marshall amp???

Can you imagine the size of a battery to start an airplane engine?

The Orange Rocker has it RIGHT!!! ~ sort of . . . .

Start in standbye mode, then switch power on.

But But But But there must be a power switch
somewhere BEFORE the standbye switch is able to be abled?

Please tell us more about how initial power is
managed on the Orange Rocker.

We will StandBye with Baited Breath

Guitar Amp Control Switch Operator

Was there ever a time in amp history when guitar players were not allowed to operate their amp controls & switches? Well it was exactly like that with elevators back when elevators had manual controls.

Maybe with very old amps a control operator would operate the "Standby Switch." Of course being a highly trained professional he/she would have known how to operate the thing. When amp control operators disappeared all their valuable knowledge disappeared with them. Now nobody remembers the true function of the Standby Switch. Some common guesses:

  • Power tube red glow cooler
  • Mojo pump
  • Panic attack switch
  • Amp fire extinguisher button
  • Cathode stripper / unstripper
  • Venue free drinks request
  • ---> Make-up your own reason...

There was a time when working as an elevator push button man
was a good job. They were truly committed to "StandingBye"
and keeping the door open while secretaries quickly ran to & fro

It seems I have offended somebody by posting a Marshall advertisement of a girl sitting on an amp. Lots of music industry ads are risqué and totally socially acceptable within that segment. Are people in here artists or just have a tube fetish.

There was a long period in American advertising where they used girls in product shots. I remember for one the famous annual Pirelli calendars that mechanics would hang up in their shops. There are some real conservative people on here. Hard to believe they are guitar players! I meant no offence. It was in response to someone who offended me to try and lighten them up. Pushing elevator buttons would be easier.

I don't understand Americans at times and it seems they don't understand me. Us Aussies must appear so uncouth and Americans such Saints. And both cultures speak English, but there is a disconnect.

It seems my post with accompanying picture was removed because an older gentleman on here found it salacious. Funny how Marshall can use it in an advertisement and it isn't appropriate for TDPRI. How odd. At least I am not into Norwegian death metal genre or there would really be a cultural disconnect. You can really tell who on here was never in a punk rock, metal or hard rock group back in the day. What would they have thought of Frank Zappa's behaviour or a group like the Grateful Dead?

Maybe I am in the accordion tube amp section of TDPRI...

As an aspiring TDPRI Moderator, your pictures are "Soft Porn".
I like "Soft Porn" as opposed to porn or prudish.
But as one who aspires towards mass influence, you should consider that our
glorious TDPRI Forum of 1000s of members will have a variety of beliefs.
There are Telecaster guitarists who wear burkas,
who believe to wait till marriage,
who believe the body is sacred,
who may wish to share the TDPRI threads with others who may be sensitive to "Soft Porn"
who may be on the cusp of recovering from personal issues that are affected by "Soft Porn"
So, you might please 90% of the TDPRI guest list, you should also consider
the 10% who do not appreciate anything but tubes and wires. Right?

You are probably right I should just stick to tubes and stay away from controversial topics like "transistors" lest someone get upset. And stay away from non-Fender amp discussion.

How long does one on here remain at the apprentice level?
