EHX 22./44. Caliber + Nova System?

This little thingy is a 22 or 44 watt power amp. I'm considering buying one to use at home instead of my 50watt 212 combo.
but because its a power amp i will need a pre amp right?

so I did a little research on preamps and the internet said: a preamp just changes the sound of your guitar. like adding a EQ or a distorted sound.

Well, I stared thinking and since I'm thinking of getting a Nova System I could use that as a preamp.

What are your thoughts on this?

I just bought a 22 Caliber. I have a 5w tube amp with a line out. I run a cable from the line out into the 22 Caliber to drive a single 12 cab. Works great to add some extra volume & still keep the tone of my little amp. It also works at the end of your pedal board. The tone is not great but it is not bad either. The 22 is loud but I haven't tried it in a full band situation. I really like the whole concept of these little amps
