Got to be one of the ugliest amps in history. I wanted to like it, but every time I see it I hate it a little bit more. It might even be tolerable if it wasn't for that hideously, cheap looking nameplate and the ghastly knobs that poke out like the erect metallic nipples of a robot.

The idea is sound though, who doesn't want a low watt tube amp in the house?

It will be interesting to see how the Greta sells. If the web hits on this forum thread is any indication there seems to be a high level of interest.

I think it is still April before it shows up in stores. If anyone has info on the actual release date from Fender to resellers please post it here.

I wish it were American made - even if that meant it cost more. It looks cool but I justy have a feeling it will have that low end Wal-Mart feel like the low end electronics.

Sounds better than that hideous Greta imo

I thought the original Epi Valve Jr was the worst tube amp I'd heard .. until now.

These things ain't functional enough to attract me. I've gigged 5w tube amps and 15w SS ones; i couldn't imagine buying an amp purely for using in the home.

The aesthetics of the Greta don't work for me, either- or the price.

Small, cheap, versatile amps i like...... micro/nano/mini or whatever.... not so much.

Home is the ONLY place I use an amp.

By the way Musicians Friend now has both the Greta and Excelsior in stock!

I bought a Greta cuz it matches my Bullet

Don't know about the ugliest in history ( some of those 80s Laneys and crates with the huge plastic corners would get my vote)
But they did miss the mark a bit..
It has none of the charms of the small Selmer or Watkins amps or even the Marshall Capri..Vox has done themselves proud with the blue AC4 and Marshall has its litte historic guys,I agree Fender has dropped the ball with this styling..not represenitive of them at all.
I would have preferred something along the styling of a pint sized reverb unit, perhaps with some non traditional colors available..heck it could even include a reverb tray..perfect infront of a 600 or PJ.
A pity as I have a small stock of GE and RCA 12at-7s that would probably make it sing...
Perhaps the bloom will rapidly fall from the rose..so to speak

Big ABF semi delivered my Greta today

It really does feel like a radio made in the late 30's or early 40's but it is not plastic. The front and back are red lacquered wood as are the feet. The top is gold painted metal. It's pretty heavy for it's size.

2 watts into a 4 inch speaker is still pretty loud for a bedroom amp if you dime it. Still you can get some very satisfying tones at lower volumes too. The external speaker jack mutes the internal speaker but the line out does not. All in all it is a beautifully made little toy.Sounds just like the video

Very nice! I'm gassin' for one now. I was originally interested in the Excelsior until I heard the clips of both pawnshop series amps. The Greta won me over. Let us know what you think when you are finally able to pry the guitar from your hands.

I got mine today, sadly it is a defect and fighting with music123 on it. Speaker is either blown or defective, but it was boxed wrong to start with. probably a customer return then reshipped to me.

But as for the sound, through my orange 2x12 cabinet it sounds great for only having a simple set of controls. And plugging it into an 12 inch eminence reignmaker is even nicer.
I was surprised at the wood, and only the internal chassis and cover being metal. But the wood will keep vibration down. and keep any metal rattle to minimum.
This will make a nice bedroom amp if i can get my issue resolved.
I will also admit the VU meter was a nice touch, and sort of swayed me to get it lol
i will probably end up fixing it myself since they wont refund the shipping, so when i take it apart i will post pics of the tiny things insides
