Help! Peavey Classic 100H vs Carvin X100b
So I can buy the Peavey for around the same price as the carvin (400-450). I owned a classic 50 head for a while and loved it. Only thing it was lacking was a good bass response but different cabs made up for it. The Carvin has a lot of features / construction that I like but I can't find a video of anyone using the clean channel with a good country, jazz, swing, or blues vibe. It would seem that it sounds very sterile, but maybe a good overdrive in the front would work?
The sound I'm going for is something that can pull off Brent Mason or Brian Setzer type sounds. Brent owned a classic 50 for a while and I know what the amp is capable of. But the Carvin on paper seems like it would be more versatile. Anyone have an experience they could share? Thanks!

You really need to try both out, not listen to other people. Don't forget about a nice SF Fender twin to try out too.
Why do you need so much power? p.s. Brent and Brian can get good sounds out of anything they are plugged into. |

I tend to play with loud drummers, so having the room to not max the amp out but still have headroom is important. I think I am going to buy both and a/b them until i make up my mind. I have a lot of experience with the classic, but the Carvin is not local so I can't try it out....

For clean I would go with the Carvin. But Peavey makes the Delta Blues that has a good clean tone. The Fender Blues JR is small but has a great clean tone! Check out Fender HotRod Deville as well. Check out as many amps as you can before making your final choice!

I had a Carvin XV112(early 90's combo of the X100B) and a Peavey Delta Blues 210...Carvin wins hands down in all categories...except trem, cuz it doesn't have it, lol.
Cleans had more life, dirt was far superior...like a mix between Marshall and early Mesa Boogie. I always for the Peavey to be dull and lifeless...always liked their SS stuff better.
