5E3 volume controls - Update and pics
Today I’ve wired up my 5E3 clone, a Ceriatone board and parts with Hoffman PT and OT. No brass plate, just a thick copper wire soldered to the pots back as ground buss.
Took a breath and powered up without tubes…. Pilot light on…. Ok. Tubes on……. Wow! Nice glowing. No stink, no smoke. Speaker on and plug the Strat: quite and glassy. Heck! A great tone!!! But… One of the four inputs don’t work and both the volume controls have effect on every input i.e. if I have the guitar on the bright channel no. 1 with volume 1 cranked up and volume 2 at zero, the tone is gritty and saturated, if both the controls are ¾ up or higher the volume is loud but the sound is clean. And the effect of the tone knob is subtle. Is it right that both the volume controls have effect on both bright and normal channels? Thanks, Fabio

Welcome to the beauty of a 5e3. I just made a new CD with the studio's Victoria - I plugged into the bright channel, with that volume knob around 6, and controlled my dirt and midrange with the normal channel volume, which varied from 9 to 12 depending on the song.

Yes, they are pretty interactive. I love the tone. It is taking me a while to get it down with my 5e3. I have had it about a month. I need to get back to that amp.

I admit, I still have to understand how do volume controls work, at least I see that when both are cranked up the tone is full, rich and clean. With one volume control cranked up and the other one at zero you have a rich and heavy saturation. Mixing the two you have subtle but nice tone changes. Is it right?
BTW, I’ve been impresseed by the tone of this new animal. Is way more charming than I expected! Thanks to anyone for any kind of reply, and enjoy a few pics of building enhancement (just testing before the tweed cover) http://photobucket.com/albums/v380/T...noClone%205E3/
