G12H in a Classic 30?

What would you guys think of the celestion g12h in a classic 30 to round off the shrill highs? And to be sure I want the 16 ohm version right?

Which G12H?

I have a 73 Pro Reverb with two G12H-80's that sound WONDERFUL. There's also a G12H-30, which is supposed to be a completely different animal from the 80's, and also the V30's.

I tried a G12H-30 years ago with that amp. It does help I felt. Stronger bottom, more bearable highs - but I felt the amp itself just had lacked in some respects. So a speaker, although an improvement, didn't make me want to keep it.

All the celestion speakers you mention all sound different - try em' to see which one you like for that amp.

If you're going to replace the speaker, I'd recommend going with a Weber, either a 12F150 or a Blue Dog. Yes, 16 ohm in a Classic 30.

The CL30 is an amp I just cannot love. Although it can sound somewhat like a fender it does not nail that sound. When my Fenders are out of the house awhile I can like the CL30. As soon as the fenders are back in the house I do not care so much for the CL30. Subtle difference, but subtle can be very big . There is nothing wrong with the Blue Marvel. I'm gonna try the tube setup Bob at Eurotubes has for this amp. If the JJ's don't make me like it ,it's gone. I would not put alot of money into this amp.

it's not a Fender ...

so it's not going to sound like one, but I liked the one I had, wish I had kept it.
I felt that it was a good alternative sound to my 68 DR.
I don't think it's fair to compare it to a vintage Fender amp as it's a totally different amp, different circuit and power tubes.

As mentioned elsewhere, I didn't care too much for the OD channel, but the clean channel cranked sounds very good IMO.
There are a lot of mods that can be done to further improve the Peavey Classic amps, you can find them at the Blue Guitar Page

Hello,
I have a G12H30 Speaker in my Classic 30 and I like the sound. However I do only use he clean channel of the amp. I also have the 1x12" extension cabinet with a Vintage 30 speaker in it. Best sound for my taste is the amp + the cabinet.
