I want to build a combo cabinet ..

I was in GC the other day and saw a fender (Deluxe -maybe) that had a finished wood cabinet ... and it made me drool.

No tolex ... just pure dining room table wood sheen around a nice set of components.

I was wondering if all you amp heads can suggest a good wood type to build a cabinet. I'll be using the guts from a CRATE Vintage Club 20

any ideas ... suggestions ... am I setting myself up for Agita?

Anything you like the look of will work. Fender used pine. I have used it, poplar, and other hardwoods. Whatever you want for a look.

i considered doing the same. but backed down because i don't have the ability to do the dove-tailing these cabinets scream for.

Do you have a Woodcraft store near you? They have a nice selection of woods to choose from. Some really cool looking stuff that would make an awesome cab.

Thanks ...

I'm gonna give it a try ... I've built cabinets before, so the dovetailing, while challenging, is ultimately what will show the zen, minus the music.

I prefer 3/4" white pine for cabs and combos ... here's a build-along I did for cab boxes and completing a 2x10 cab for a '64 Tremolux ... http://www.frettech.com/rfc/cab/

(Yes, this is Rob DiStefano and not "MC Smith" - dang hackers!)
