Overdriving a champ.....
I've got a Vibrochamp and I usually play clean. Nevertheless, I'm building a pedal collection. I know this isn't a hardcore metal amp, but can it handle an overdrive pedal well--TS9 or a Bad Monkey? Thanks.

Absolutely!
If not driving the amp at high volumes/it's own distortion, it loves effects. What speaker is in it? I play through a 64 VC far more than my other amps, and rarely have the volume over 3 (and that's loud, in my space). Overdrive/distortion/fuzz effects that I use with a VC include: MJM Blues Devil, original script MXR Distortion +, Analog Man SD-1/808 Silver, Menatone Fish Factory, Barber LTD, original Fuzz Face, MJM London Fuzz, Fulltone Soul Bender, Pedalworx McFuzz... Even a Companion FY-2 Fuzz Box for extremes. If you just want to push it, I can overdrive the preamp tubes with my Bad Bob very easily. Also, as far as clean, a Tele via an old Dyna Comp into a Vibro Champ is classic. But, the speaker is a huge factor. And you can't go wrong with the cheap Weber C8RS. In fact, when using effects and for recording, I'd prob prefer it to the more expensive and darker AlNiCo options. |

i'd go bad monkey, but i'm not a real big tube screamer fan tho. i would do it because it's cheaper. or, i would use an sd-1 which uses the same circuit as a ts, but with different clipping and (theme here) cheaper

Try a buch and find what you like. I like the OD-3 in overdrives. The Silver Dragon for distortion. I use these with my 1x12 champ clone. They do a nice job for me.

Weber speaker......
I just put a 8A125 Vintage Speaker in my champ and it sounds great, I might not need to buy an overdrive pedal now. i thought the old speaker sounded pretty good, but this was a huge upgrade.

Bronco TS-10
I have the bronco, version of the vibro champ. and a tubescreamer 10. Definitaley gets the sounds. When I was younger i would max out all the front volume controls, for that crushed glass sound.
Recently I learned to just use a little boost, gives a great overdriven tone. Closest i've come to a srv tone was with this little rig. Not that the SRV tone is really a goal of mine. Forgot to add I have a weber speaker in my Bronco (vibrochamp). Dont know the number, but it has a smooth cone, and alnico magnet.
