Depends on the amp. The speaker impedence should match what the amp "wants" to see.
In the case of some transistor amps, halving the impedence can be louder, but doing that to a tube amp can be disastrous. If an amp has an impedence switch, or different lugs on the output transformer, then you should not see a difference when selected for the proper speaker either 16 or 8 ohms. Nothing inherently louder in an amp that uses 8 vs 16 ohm output matched to the proper speaker cabinet either. Some speakers can be more efficient than others too, but model for model being the same, the ohms rating varying won't do that. An 8 ohm say, JBL D-130 won't sound any louder than a 16 ohm JBL D-130, output of the amp selected accordingly. So no, the speaker ohms value doesn't matter, but the amp may respond differently, depending. |
